Yes. Depending on image content, image size and viewing distances it can be a modest improvement or massive one.

Yes, but if you gave the same photo to someone who was reasonably competent in PS And LR, could they do as good or better job? Discounting the time spent.

Great photo. Could you please attach the original raw photo. I would like to compare the results using LR%PS. Thanks

thanks for the reply. I completely understand not wanting to sent the RAW photo. Sorry for the double post. my login timed out & I didn't know the first message was sent.
Two years ago, I did download a copy of the Topaz suite & tried it out. It did seem to work quite well, but did not get me anything that I could not do with LR & PS. My "take-away" was the Topaz had a pretty good product suite and it might be easier or faster to use, but in the end, you could get the same or better results with LR & PS, so why spend the money? I was really looking for an excuse to buy Topaz, but didn't find one. Perhaps it has improved and now can do things you cannot accomplish in PS, but I am looking for examples. As to your comment that you could reduce noise, but you lost detail, PS has some really excellent capabilities to sharpen photos. Using those along with some masking, I have am able to get some really good results. There are many tutorials online on different methods. some require 20-30 steps. What I have done is make a script with all the steps and just let it run. In that way it is very easy for me to try our several different methods on a photo & not really need to think about it. BTW, LR does some thing really well, but the sharpening capabilities are rather poor. Kind of like trying to do a detailed sketch with a crayon rather than a fine point pen

One example: Could not have got this as clean in LR without losing detail. But in Topaz Denoise AI, I got rid of high ISO noise with a high megapixel camera and kept the detail of that 50mp sensor.

A Great White Egret bends its neck to clean its feathers on the Caribbean Island of Sint Maarten/St. Martin.

Sony 50mp A1 camera, Sony 200-600mm lens, 591mm, ISO 1600, f6.3, 1/2000 sec. With Topaz Denoise used as a plug-in in LR as a final step to clean it up a bit. First the full frame , then a tight crop from same shot.

Well worth the cost of Topaz Denoise AI, IMHO. Many top pro Wildlife and Sports shooters use and love it.

Great photo. Can you add the raw image please? I would like to compare what I could do (using LR &PS) with the Topaz results.

Yes, but it’s possible that the browser they’re using is OS dependent. You’d be surprised how many people on here still run Windows 7. I wouldn’t be surprised if we have some still running XP or Vista.

yes a browser will be O/S dependent, the code will need to run on a specific O/S. My comments include Win 7, XP, Vista etc..... If you do a download using a browser, the browser controls the location. Please see my earlier note. thanks

And so you suppose a Mac OS will be identical?

IDK what you mean by "identical", but on any O/S (for Ex: Widows, Linux, IOS, Unix) most applications can be written to do almost anything as long as the O/S does not stop it, usually for security reasons etc.... So that means that ANY browser application, and there are dozens out there, can write downloaded files to any place as long as the O/S does not stop them. The most common Browser applications such as Firefox,Chrome, or MS Edge all have options you can change for where you want the files downloaded to be written.
A small disclaimer... I am not an "Apple person" . The Apple O/S does have many restrictions as to what it allows applications to do, mostly in the name of "helping out the user". I guess it is possible that IOS restricts this, but it would be very annoying....

What OS are you using? In Windows 10 when I download through a browser the download shows at the bottom left. Once the download is complete I can right click on the file name and open it the folder it was downloaded to.

FYI. It is not O/S dependent. It is browser dependent. Your browser is controlling the download.

That’s what I was trying to do but it doesn’t stop and show you where it will put it. It flys buy when it’s installing and you can’t tell anything about where it’s going?? Frustrating

There is a download setting on your browser that controls where it goes. You can also make it ask you where to download the program. The exact option will vary depending on browser

I too use the Note8 and have been very happy with it. I would not fear to match my picture quality with the apple phones. Dr. Nikon , a member here, just took delivery of the Samsung S22 Ultra which sports what has to be the best available camera. It has a front 40mp camera and can also do 80 and 108mp shots with the back. Like our current cameras you still get a lot more onboard storage than Apple with the ability to add significantly more using a card. When mine goes I do not see myself returning to apple, though I have in the past owned several of them. I'm now a Samsung man. Hope I've given you some ideas. Good luck.

Small correction. The S22 series doesn't have any SD card slots

I am happy to take photos of people who are looking for some help capturing their selfies. I even ask them if they want me to take one for them when I see one person of a group taking the picture and are not in it because they are taking the photo.

Does it really take that much to just be helpful without thinking that we are giving up something so valuable? They probably were not going to hire a photographer anyway for the shot, so no money lost.

Good point. There seems to be several people responding to this post that are both unhelpful and overly impressed with their importance.

If I'm in a tourist area and someone or a group wants a cell phone picture then they aren't looking for portraiture, they're looking for a memory. I spend a minute or two and I always, always get a warm and grateful response. If I see a family and one parent is taking a photo of the family with a great background I'll offer to take the photo so they can all be in the picture. It's just common courtesy. It doesn't cost me anything and they have a photo to keep. I don't understand how that could be a problem. If they are asking for a professional service for free then that's a whole different issue and it can be educational to help them get over their sense of entitlement.

Well stated Bobby,

Wow, I must admit I am quite surprised by all of the (mostly self aggrandizing) comments. To equate taking a snapshot of someone with their camera because they want to be in the picture, with asking for free professional services (medical advice, legal work, carpentry , wedding pictures, etc) is a logical fallacy. When I am on vacation I get asked all the time to take a snapshot. I never once thought "wow, I am so much better than you and my snapshot will be so good that I really should be paid for this" . . . .
A quick vacation snapshot IS NOT in any way a request for a professional service. Most times it is just "hey, I it would be nice if I had shot of me and my wife in front of something and we need another person to push a button. Minimal skill needed. Kind of the same as someone asking you assist with any brief task that they need a 2nd person for. Think of it this way: If you walked into a lobby of a building and there was someone on a ladder fixing something and as you walked by, they asked you to hand them a hammer that was on the floor, just out of their reach, would you say (or think) "no way, I am professional carpenter and how dare they ask me to do something professional". I think most people would just hand them the hammer and be happy to assist.

I'm not certain, but I think that is only for tours. I remembered several trails down into the canyon. But that may have changed. The following is from (probably) the same document.

SELF GUIDED HIKE: On your own, drive about 6 miles up the South Rim to the one public hiking trail at the White House Overlook. Allow 2 hours round trip to hike about 600 feet down/up the switchback trail to the White House Ruin. Restrooms at overlook and bottom of trail. No pets allowed on the trail.

Unless rules have changed ,that is not a requirement. Several years ago we hiked in the canyon with no guides. Beautiful place. One local law you should be aware of reservation. is forbidden to have even un opened any alcohol on the reservation. The whole town and national monument is on the reservation.

Newegg was purchased a while ago by a foreign company. Not sure, but probably Chinese. I have used Newegg for over 25 years, but now I am very careful and wary of them. Not because it may be Chinese, but because of some recent poor feedback.
