A user who has people upset is continually being mentioned, slagged off and made fun of in forums which have nothing to do with him, when he isn't involved in any way. It sickens me. People bring him up just to make fun.

Hoping the user who is being dragged around the mud isn't you.

Maybe I should. I'm overly sensitive to this kind of thing. Good advice!

Agree! It's like Taylor swift says, "Haters gonna hate" :)

If you use a Mac, just take and save a picture to computer. Open Preview and from Tools, open Show Inspector. Look under Nikon Tab.

I have 2 Nikon DX lenses for sale. Both are in near new and excellent condition and I have the price listed for a quick sale on each. These are both super clean lenses and would be hard to distinguish from brand new. Below is the information on each. Please PM with any questions that you might have. I would also entertain reasonable offers if you think the $290 shipped price is too high:

1. *SOLD* Sigma 17-70mm D2.8-4 DC Macro ---> $290 shipped *SOLD*
AMAZING sharpness and really great bokeh on this lens. Comes with the original box, lens caps, and hood.

2. Nikon 16-85mm 2.5-5.6 G ED DX ---> $290 shipped
A little faster (surprisingly) than the Sigma, and a nice all-around lens to have. I cannot find the original box for this, which means my wife probably threw it away while cleaning up our storage area. Comes with lens caps, hood, and original lens pouch

Sigma 17-70

Nikon 16-85

Probably going to be withdrawing the sale post and end up keeping the 7100, which means I will be also keeping the grip. Sorry

And sometimes it's good to only have 1 lens and force myself to think about my photos

For prime walk around on a dx camera, 35mm. If space and weight permit, I would take the second lens, or take two cameras. I use a 24mm and an 85mm, with a dx and an fx camera when space and weight permit.

I used to carry around a sling bag with multiple lenses and what I found was that I was worries about swapping lenses and not actually framing the shot. It's kind of like Lord of the Rings in which I am looking for the "One Ring to Rule Them All," being the one set up that I can be happy with :)

This comes remarkably close to your question:

Interesting and quick article that seems to resonate what a lot of folks are saying. Definitely a conundrum when it comes to the different lenses. I just need to get out of my own head and focus (no pun intended) on taking pictures and not so much on what lens I DON'T have with me. :)

Anyone from Penn State is already welcome here. I am sure you have already received a lot of advice. I would carry both lenses with me until I bought a zoom lens. And the zoom lens that I would buy would be the Nikon 16-80 mm Nikon DX lens.

I guess it really comes down to need vs. want for me. I have a PRISTINE Nikon 85mm 1.8G lens for sale. I used it a few times outdoors but realized that I need a wider lens for more all purpose type of photography that I am doing. I recently posted a question on using the 35mm or 85mm lens for an "all around" lens. I was probably a bit hasty when I originally purchased the lens thinking that I would use it much more than I have. Comes with original box, hood, lens caps, and lens bag. PM or reply to the post with any questions. Thanks!

$300 Shipped to US Address only. I don't ship internationally.

Thanks for all of the responses....very helpful! Lots of options that I can start taking a look at. Why must there be so many lenses out there!! :) So is the 16-80 better than the 16-85?

I have a 35mm 1.8G and an 85mm 1.8G and where I have always struggled is which is the better lens to use as the "main" one when traveling or your general walk around lens. It never fails that when I have my 35, I am thinking it would have been great to also have the 85, and vice-versa. I primarily like taking pictures of landscapes, buildings, people walking by, etc. I also like taking close ups, but neither seem very good at close distances. Great lenses but just wondering what people use as their primary set up. I use either my D300 or D7100 with either/both lenses.

I'm not sure there is a way to accomplish what you want to do. There are things that are important to individuals--you, me, any single person--that lack value in the eyes of others. The old joke around baby photos is built on this idea: show me 100 pictures of 100 babies and they'll become a blur. A baby is beautiful to those who have an investment in the child. Your blue, ceramic bird has no value to me. Had you rendered it differently--a different angle, a different level of reality, any difference that would have led your viewer away from saying, "Yep, that's a blue, ceramic bird"--it might have been valuable to me. As it is, it's a blue, ceramic bird. The exposure is fine. I rather like the highlights reflecting from its surface. The focus is sharp. But it's a damn blue, ceramic bird. I don't know the story behind it; there's is no way I can decipher its value. It's a nicely focused, well-exposed piece of ceramic. It might have been pried from the dead hands of a Hungarian gypsy, but to me it's what you present: a blue, ceramic bird.

If you want to bring me a solution and not a problem, build your image so that it tells a story. Shoot the blue, ceramic bird with a slightly out-of-focus wedding photo in the background. Shoot the blue, ceramic bird sitting on the stomach of an obviously pregnant woman. Shoot the blue, ceramic bird resting in the paws of a cat. Do anything with the blue, ceramic bird; but don't shoot it with a nondescript background and expect your viewer to come up with a story that makes a work of art out of your non-communicating image of a blue, ceramic bird.

Does that help?
I'm not sure there is a way to accomplish what you... (show quote)

Now THAT is a perfect response. Thank you for your feedback. Even made me laugh as I read, "But it's a damn blue, ceramic bird." I see your point and appreciate the potential recommendations of how to tell a better story with my photography. and just to clarify, I did not pry this from the dead hands of a Hungarian gypsy...she was Lithuanian :)
