Doesn;t look like repair was done by Nikon from reciept???????

Camera Bar LLC,...Hartford, CT performed repair.

They sent it to nikon as an authorized dealer, that's where I bought the camera and that's where I brought it back to. They're 20 minutes away from me.

FYI:

If you really expect anyone to be able to read the service receipt... you need to store original so the full size image can be seen.

Thanks - changed and stored original of the service receipt.

Interested?

Not that I am in the position to get another camera right now, but I am wondering what you will be wanting for the D7100?

Its a 810 and thinking about selling it which is why I posted it. Don’t have original box but do have battery, charger, body cap and book by Darrell Young about 810. I just don’t know when it’ll be back.

Just throwing this out to hedgehog members.

I'm looking for a Nikon D810 with low shutter count.

My D800E has 196,000 or so shutter activations,.....time to put it out to pasture as a backup when I get the D810.

I do have a nice minty D7100 with very very low shutter count,..(is my current backup body ,..hardly even used it, has a very nice auto focus DX 18mm to 70mm 3.5-4.5 G lens,....should anyone be interested?
The D7100 will sell after I get a D810 unless anyone interested now,...Ill then post images and particulars.

Thanks for any interest,.......PM me and I'll get back to you.

Marty

I have one at Nikon being fixed that I've replaced with a 850. Unfortunately I have no idea when it will be back. I authorized the cost a week ago. A lens got stuck on it and even my camera store couldn't get it off, otherwise worked perfectly.

Let's get a grip here / I asked a question and have gotten a few answers but way more discussion on "nifty fifty" which I now regret using.

Funny! We think alike.

You already have a good excuse: you want the D850.

I have gotten my wife to say she won't divorce me if the cost is too high to fix the 810 and get the 850. I tried to get her to sell her 7500, fix and keep the 810 for her and I get the 850. She's no dummy, she said if the 810 isn't too heavy for her why don't I keep the 810 and she gets the 850. It went south on me pretty quickly. She did decide she likes the 7500 and doesn't want a heavier camera and she likes me enough that she'll keep me regardless of what I decide except getting the 810 fixed and getting the 850.

"The D810 sells for over $1000 in working condition, and for around $400 for parts. So if the repair costs less than $600 you are better off getting it fixed." I am in full agreement.

Cheap or not the 50mm lens is a great lens. Perhaps a part of its mount was bent due to the fall making it hard to remove it. I bet Nikon has a way to fix the problem and I do not expect it to be a high bill but who knows. Things going bad could mean that you could need a new lens mount for the D810 and a new lens, no biggies when it comes to repairs. Only Nikon can tell.

I'm half hoping for a high bill to give me an excuse to buy the 850 although I do love the 810. The movable touch screen would be nice as well as the pixel shift for landscapes (although I have been doing focus stacking in PS) along with the joy stick for moving the focus point. I don't really need the extra pixels as the 810 has plenty.

Yet another interesting question. So many variables I would be hesitant to venture a guess.
A lot depends on the wallet size of the person involved. What one person thinks is a reasonable expense may not be what another person thinks is reasonable.
But, if I wanted to KEEP my D810, I would first go on Ebay and see what they are currently selling for, (that is a yard stick of the current worth of the D810) Then I would say that the repair costs should not exceed 1/2 of that value.
ie. if Ebay indicates the current value of a used D810 is about, say, $1000.00, then my base line shut off point would be $500.00. So, any repair costing over $500.00 would send me looking for a D850.

Interesting rationale - have to sell it to wife

I feel that both have improved, focus speed and dynamic range. I recently shot a local 4th of July parade and got wonderful pictures without any problems with focus. I was shooting at an intersection, the floats and people were making a turn, shooting far and near, bright sun and not so bright sun. Shooting with aperture priority I got about a 98% in focus, when not probably my fault with me not stable enough.

Thanks a lot

I have both the 810 & 850. I find myself always going to the 850. Love the focus using the back button focus and joy stick. The moveable back screen comes in handy for lower shooting and all my still life shooting. There are additional functions too but the ones mentioned make a big difference. The 850 does not have a in camera flash if that makes a difference. It does have a hot shoe.

Thanks / don't really care about the camera flash but like the other stuff. Can you tell a difference in focus speed and dynamic range?

Sounds like it was a mistake putting a cheap 'Toy' lens on an expensive Nikon body. Should have used a 50mm standard lens, from the start.

It was a nikon 50 1.8 so although not expensive I wouldn't call it a "toy". I had fallen with the camera and the Nikon 24-70 2.8 and was changing lens a couple of weeks later and had trouble taking it off and maybe should have stopped there. But got the 50 on partway and couldn't get it seated or off.

I somehow got my nifty fifty really stuck on nikon 810. My local great camera store couldn't budge it either so off it went to Nikon for repair. Haven't received an estimate yet and have never dealt with nikon service before. My 810 was bought used but in excellent shape with about 35k actuations.

I considering depending on how much to fix it getting the 850 while on sale instead of putting money into it. I do mainly landscape, grandchildren and grandchildren sports. I like the articulating touch screen along with the pixel shifting and easier way of moving focus points and faster focusing system.
Money is never not an issue but I can afford the 850 although wife may not be happy.

In your opinion what dollar amount makes sense to ditch the 810 rendering it pretty much worthless and buying the 850. If I repair the 810 I'll keep it.
