Some years ago, when I was tasked with administering a large and complex telephone system, I hit on the idea of using MS Word to create a searchable map of the system's very complex menu structure. Then, when I was stuck on where to find something in the menu maze, I just searched the Word document for the solution.

Yesterday, it struck me that the same approach could be helpful in finding things in the very complex Photoshop CC menu maze. So, I went through the menu choices and created the attached searchable Word guide to both the pull-down menus and the toolbars.

I've attempted to keep Adobe's nomenclature, so a > sign means there's a sub-menu to follow. Adobe places lines to group some menu choices into families - I used underlining for that purpose.

I hope this proves useful - I've used it a couple of times already. Of course, you can search for anything on the web, but I think having one place to go for where-to-find-it information is helpful. I also discovered a lot of menu options I never new existed.

That is excellent - and useful. I am forever searing for menu items I know are there but difficult to find. I am going to do the same thing with the Affinity Menus - these, in my opinion, are laid out far more illogically than Photoshop's.

Thank you for a great contribution.

Linary, first I would like to thank you for picking up the baton. Just think of yourself as being part of a relay team. The baton has been passed off to you and the team has great confidence in you taking us across the finish line. I hope that helps with the sports analogy.

I will try not to drop it at the first hurdle.

I did understand the intent, but I did not know if the sport was Basketball, American Football or Baseball. I have not heard of the players either.

Thank you for doing this. Also, here's my response to your asking for something to share. Two unaltered photos, one from my back yard, one from a celebration in Puerto Vallarta Mexico, were layered. Altered the mask and spider web to sharpen and bring out full tones, darkening the background. The dancers were duplicated, pasted onto another layer and flipped, then partly erased to appear as a dream of the mask. Some saturation applied to the dancers, and "Thunderbird" symbol hinted.

Upto just a few months ago, my interest in art was minimal at best. Between you and Kenievans I have developed an interest in PhotoArt and whilst I don't pretend to understand much of the final image, I have a good idea of the processes involved.

I can sit looking at a Constable for hours on end, whilst passing on Picasso. The Mask of Dreams is one of those that may keep me occupied for quite a while - its brilliant, its terrifying. This is the stuff that nightmares are made of.

I knew this was going to be difficult, I did not know that a knowledge of vintage sporting records was also a requirement.

Even though my time is severely limited right now, and will continue to be for a while, I read this section religiously every single day.

Although I have no personal knowledge of Linda’s feet, I know her shoes here are very, very big.

Think of it as playing center field for the Yankees after DiMaggio retired. That would make you Mickey Mantle. 😎

I am British, so I have no idea what this means: "Think of it as playing center field for the Yankees after DiMaggio retired. That would make you Mickey Mantle."

I do understand the sentiment with which I totally agree.

Linda-from-Maine has left the stage after a period in which this section has gone from strength to strength. I was asked if I would stand in her place and readily agreed. It will be a very hard act to follow. Subscriber numbers have gone up and up during Linda's time here; subject matter has largely diversified but remained within the constraints of post processing, and as well as a core of knowledgeable - talented - members, there is a steady influx of Hoggers either just looking, seeking help or finding a new "home". Some of the visitors are themselves expert in image manipulation. Altogether a formidable knowledge and skill base.

A quote from one of Linda's final posts '. . . as well as how much is simply snapshot sharing. Only a tiny percent of active users here are interested in thoughtful discussion or teaching'

I have read on this section some of the discussions added to examples of PP work, can we have some please?

My motto is "share the knowledge" so whilst caretaking the section I will do my best to join in the sharing. (My not so secret hope is that Linda will rest and the UHH addiction will set in and once again she will be running this section).

Am considering D7500 in addition to D3200 (and D40 rarely used anymore). I understand D7500’s has focus motor so it will autofocus my 50mm 1.8 (now only manual focuses on my D3200). Question though: will there be conflict between my AF-S lenses and the D7500 focus motor , and which focusing would operate: the camera motor or the lens motor - does it make a difference, is there a setting to choose or turn lens motor off?
Andre (d3200, d40, 18-55, 70-300, 40mm2.8micro, 50mm1.8, tamron18-270).

No conflict.

Looking for opinion of Affinity Photo vs Photoshop. I have been using Lightroom 6 for years and own my copy out right. Does anyone know if I can work between Lightroom and Affinity. I know raw files can be uploaded to AP.

Set Affinity up as an external editor to Lightroom and everything works as it should.

Affinity is a good substitute for Photoshop, is limited in some of the more obscure areas and actually better than PS in other areas. AP is available on a free trial basis so nothing to lose.

Images can be exported as Jpeg, Tiff and PSD (as well as several other formats including its own "afphoto" but that one can't be opened in Lightroom).

Fellow Hoggers, I inherited a Leica V-LUX 2 camera. while practicing with it, I cannot get it to focus. I shot an object at most of the zoom range. The images are not in focus. In manual focus same problem. There is no focus ring, just a little button you press (WTH). I have been through the instruction book and I can't find anything in there about this. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Phred

Don't forget to use the rear dial to focus when in manual focus mode (pp 75 of user manual). Also read page 76 for precise focussing (focus peeking).

I found a free manual at http://en2.leica-camera.com/assets/file/download.php?filename=file_5220.pdf

The Raw file has the extension “.ORF” which cannot be loaded on the UHH forum.

It would be pointless to post anything other than a raw file when the question is "What is better, raw or jpeg?"

Orf files open in Lightroom and probably dozens of other programs.

For me, the raw is better. Even though these two photos were taken at different times so the light may have changed, the jpeg sky has a greenish tone and little detail. The raw file has a better and bluer sky and contains a lot more detail in the clouds (after a little help in Lightroom).

The bright blue car on the right side of the road has a true colour in the raw and the car in the foreground has better definition around the rear nearside window.

Very little if any, difference in the shades of green and brick.

I would usually choose raw just for the ease of editing.
