I love these PP projects. They provide a great level of challenge and an opportunity for all of us to practice this very important skill. Of course it helps having a great photo to begin with, as in this case.

I am providing four different versions. A pastel version; a high contrast b&w graphic version; a sepia version; and, a fine art pencil and wet charcoal version.

“You will always remember this as the day you almost caught Captain Jack Sparrow”

What? Oh, wrong kind of sparrow I am now told.

Well, in any event, these are plum wonderful images. I almost didn't bother to open this thread, as I am real tired of all of the bird snap shots. . .but then I saw it was your thread. Knowing your artistic abilities, I opened the thread and was face to face with true artistic photography. Well done, almost.

These appear to be over processed and/or overly sharpened.

I might suggest the Topaz modules on Noise and Detail. These will make a great improvement overall to your otherwise wonderful compositions of the lovely sparrows.

Suz, Your images are very nice. Well taken and well presented. I have always maintained that it is the little things; i.e., the details that make a great image. With these it is the wind and the manner in which you captured the flags that really make these images "stand-out"!

Interesting work. The first two are bold and fresh. The third image is an image lost to the poor filters contained in PS. Too bad, as I always love bicycle images. Would love to see number three without use of the overly in our faces PS filter.

Remember, digital PP filters are very much like on the camera lens filters. . .if you can "see" the filter, then it is not working, not artful, and did I mention that it is not working? :)

Add a naked redhead to clean and cook the fish, and you might have found true Nirvana!

Beautiful photo. Thank you for the quote from Ignatius. The line you cited is part of a prayer that every Jesuit novice learns almost as soon as he enters if he doesn't already know it (I didn't when I entered). Many of us pray it daily for good reason. It is called 'Prayer for Generosity.' Below find the entire prayer.

O Lord, teach me to be generous
To serve you as you deserve
To give and not to count the cost
To fight and not to heed the wounds
To toil and not to seek for rest
To labor and not to ask for reward
Save that of knowing I do your holy will

St. Ignatius of Loyola

Thank you for your kind and informative comments. I am familiar with this prayer, as I studied with the good Jesuits while getting my Doctorate at USF.

Meet Benson, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. He belongs to my receptionist, and came in for a visit the other night. Along with some routine maintenance, he found himself in front of the camera.

A frequent visitor to the clinic, along with his housemate Rubie, he loves to chase Eisenheim and steal his food. He also very much enjoys cleaning the cat box. Saves us some work, but...

Eisenheim holds him in great distain, but has resigned himself to Benson's presence and tolerates him.

This is a perfect portrait. Benson will soon be the envy of all of his domain!

It would seem that I have come upon a Christian Order that practices the vow of silence. . .24 views, and not a single comment? I clearly will be spending my time and efforts posting anywhere else than in this forum in the future.

This is a powerful image. I would think about shopping this image to some stock agency. In years gone by, this is the sort of image that one would find in Life, Look and Smithsonian magazines.

You might consider making this into a poster, with the right caption, and you just might be surprised how many would sell.

I send my prayers for your son's safe return, from a two tour combat vet in Viet Nam. . .

I love that area. One of the best weekends I ever had was in Mokelumne Hill. I need to go back with my digital cameras.

Thank you for looking, and for your comments.

There are many wonderful photography opportunities up here in this area. I am retired, so I do my "field trips" during the week, avoiding the weekends and the crowds. I would be happy to put you onto some good photo areas up here should you want.

The Parable of the Lost Sheep

15 Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. 2 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”

3 Then Jesus told them this parable: 4 “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ 7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.

Behold the Lost Sheep!

This wonderful church of the California gold rush era, was created in 1856. Maybe some other historical dates might be of interest: California Statehood - 1850; Gold discovered - 1848; The Donner Party - winter of 1846-47; and, we were still fighting the Indian wars coming west by wagon train. . . .not to mention that the Civil War was still in the distant future.

"Teach us to give and not to count the cost." A very Christ-like quote from Saint Ignatius, giving us yet another manner of stating the Golden Rule, who is noted for founding the Jesuit Order of priests (Society of Jesus).

My own family was in California in the very early 1840's.

I love this area, its history, and almost every little gold rush town has a wonderful old church from this period that was rich in history, without leaving behind their Christian faith.
