Thank you. Enjoyed that. Her work should be an inspiration to all

The discussion is good, even if we've had a little fun at your expense. Finding something new as a medium of expression is hard to do. Yet, learning the skills to try and reproduce other's work, or simply manage challenging subjects is also a good thing.

Personally I seldom post images unless I use them to illustrate a point that I am trying to make. I seldom look at the photo gallery section, but I do enjoy seeing other peoples' work. Finding some perspective that represents a unique talent is truly hard to do. Good luck in searching for your specific muse, meme, or talent. It will be great to see once you find it.

I had never heard of Lisa Kristine until I stumbled over a small gallery by accident in Mendocino about 10 years ago. Her work is impressive, and we bought some. It seemed different, unique, and very perceptive to us. We have three of her prints in our house that we see every day, and it brings us great pleasure. It may not be to others' tastes, but I feel that she has found a niche for her work.

Most people would prefer to shoot what they like rather than hold out for some unattainable vision that they don't even understand. Anyone can be a critic. Unless you can produce something better than you are criticizing, you are just whistling in the wind. You are holding out for a perfect fantasy instead of just trying to do the best you can and posting it whether it is good or just as good as you can do for now. In the wider world, most of those same old same old pics of the moon, flowers, birds, etc. are often viewed by friends and family as great photography. And those of us on UHH that actually take and post those pictures can appreciate the skill that went into them.

I did not mean to criticize but more to suggest that people should be aware of what has been done to death and try to find innovative ways of capturing scenes. I would like to see more people move beyond the bounds of perfect exposure to a more creative side. I realize that every style of photography has its place. This is just my personal quest. People here have suggested that I have no standing because I have not posted, but that is because I don't think I have any images that go beyond the pedestrian. I am still trying to find the image that would stand out. I would not be happy just being part of the crowd.
But to each his own. At least I have sparked a discussion.

A lot of good responses here. I didn't mean to put anyone down; just trying to get a discussion going maybe get some thinking out of the box. If I can figure out how to post a picture better than I apparently did this topic I'll see if I can find something decent to post. Thanks to all.

It seems they have moved my original post somewhere else, probably because of trolls. The original was simply asking why are people posting the same photos. We see the same pictures of the moon or egrets or great blue herons that we have seen hundreds of times before. Why are we not seeing something different. Am I the only one who is tired of the same old same old?

Hey, they apparently moved my start here. I don't know why.

If we had any cardinals in our area I'd post one for you. The question is what is new under the sun. Is there anything on planet Earth you can think of that hasn't been photographed. It's all in how it's presented. Does it have interesting lighting. Is it in a different setting. A different perspective. Somethin has to be new about it to capture the imagination. Maybe it's just it has to show the beauty of the subject. As male humans, we've all seen millions of images of beautiful women but somehow we never get tired of seeing them. Go figure.

Thank you but I'm from Virginia; I've seen plenty of Cardinals.

[quote=GoofyNewfie]Not my cup of tea either, but some are quite exceptional and I appreciate the skill involved in those.
If I’m not interested in something, I don’t look.
What do you like to shoot?[/quote

I would like to shoot what is distinctly my own vision. I haven't found that yet. That's why I would not post; I would not want to be another same old same old.

We have all seen thousands of pictures of the moon or egrets or great blue herons. Are we supposed to continue to admire the same old same old. I would like to see, instead of a demonstration of competence with tired subjects, something new in the photo section. Am I the only one who feels this way?

Is anyone surprised? This administration is dedicated to making America a third-world country where certain families and corporations run the country for their own benefit.

That is not true.

A RAW file is sensor data that is encoded using a Bayor Color Filter Array mosaic. The CFA has a pattern, which is external to the file data, thus allowing vastly more information to be encoded without increasing the in file data.

A TIFF file is an RGB bitmap that necessarilly has to contain within the file all of the information it holds. The TIFF file does not contain any sensor data.

OK. I guess what I was thinking is that a TIFF can contain layers in addition to the base file.

Is a TIFF file larger than a RAW file? I thought the RAW file was, considering that it holds all the information the sensor picked up.

Yes, because the TIFF contains the raw information plus the adjustments to it.

Yes I shoot film. I've been rediscovering IR photography with old films I get from Film photography project and Lomo. For me, it brings some fun back into the process. Not knowing what I will get til scanning. I use a number of B&W developers, I will have to learn E6 color slide.
