My wife and I will be taking a European river cruise in a couple of weeks. I bought a power converter that will convert 220 to 110. However it will not convert 50 Hz to 60 hz. Accordingly the converter manufacturer advises that I only run the converter for 15 minutes and then leave it off 5 minutes. To me that's a formula for insanity while I'm trying to recharge my camera batteries that will take a couple of hours to recharge. Does anyone have a better solution?

No need to worry about converting 50 Hz to 60 Hz since the output current to the camera battery is DC, not AC. And as to operating a 60 Hz device with 50 Hz current should be no problem. I'm more worried about operating a 50 Hz device with 60 Hz current. But as mentioned by many most chargers now are rated for 50/60 Hz. I just checked my Panasonic & Olympus chargers and they are rated for 110-240V, 50/60 Hz.

Question: If I bought a Nikon camera in England for example and then I immigrated to the US will Nikon honor their warranty here in the US?

Thank you everyone for all the useful info. As I mentioned earlier I verified that the card reader works properly and File Explorer shows all my files although the RW2 files are only shown as icons, not as images.
DNG Converter is working fine. What happened was when I specified the source folder DNG Converter did not list the RAW files in that folder which led me to believe that DNG Converter did not recognize those files. In fact DNG Converter did see the files but for some reason did not list them. Pressing the "convert" icon DNG Converter the starts the conversion process and also shows the RAW files as they're being converted.

I reason I got a bit worried is because as I recall in the previous times I've used DNG Converter it ALWAYS showed all the files in the source folder. This instance it did not but it did not affect the conversion process. Anyone have a similar experience?

Thank you very much to everyone for all the tips and info.

Guess what? I just installed Adobe DNG Converter on another Windows 10 desktop & rebooted. Same problem. File Explorer sees all the files but DNG Converter does not see any RAW files from both SD cards!

If you can connect your camera directly to the computer, see if that works. If it does, it's more likely the issue with your card reader.

Bob - I can preview all my JPEG's & ORF from my card reader. File Explorer shows my RW2 files but there is no preview.

Blue-ultra - BTW I already reinstalled DNG converter and rebooted PC but still the same issue. I'll try on another PC and see what happens. Thanks for the responses.

I need help with my DNG Converter. Yesterday after visiting the Queens Zoo I opened my DNG Converter to convert my Panasonic Lumix RW2 files into the non proprietary DNG files so I could process them in Lightroom. I've done this many times previously with no problem. But this time when I specified the source directory where I copied all my RW2 files, DNG Converter did not recognize any of the RW2 files. Rebooting my Windows 10 desktop a couple of times didn't help. I tried specifying the card reader as the source folder but DNG Converter still did not recognize any of the RW2 files. I also noticed that DNG Converter now does not even recognize all the other RW2 files in other folders on the same card. And on another card where I have RW2 as well as ORF(Olympus Raw File) files, DNG does not see any of them. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Ahem......

Didn't you forget to mention a certain company that owns majority stock in Olympus and has partnered with them for YEARS?

Nope. Did not answer the question. He provided the information one could use to answer the question.

Sorry, not going to respond to the rest of your troll-bait.

Trolls like you who partake of name calling and insults are what make it so unattractive these days.

Original question by kfoo: "If shooting an FX lens on DX body, does it effect the actual number of mega pixels the is recorded on the photo?"

Answer by Dngallagher: "The number of megapixels is not effected by the lens, that is a function of the camera sensor."

I guess Dngallagher did answer the original question.

An FX lens on a DX body will give you the maximum megapixels the camera is capable of shooting.

The maximum resolution is dictated by the camera's sensor, not the lens. But the FX lens will generally have the better resolving power because you're capturing the the more of the center of the image where the lens is sharpest.

Excuse me Angela but I believe the PC term now is "person hole" & I've seen women work in them.

BTW that last photo of the bridge tower looks great. Has that B/W feel but with a superimposed color photo of the flag.

Not sure if my question was the one not understood. If I buy a full frame sensor camera and but my kit or 50 mm f1.8 lens on it, will the effective focal length decrease by the factor when converting from one to the other? For example, my 50 mm is essentially an 85 mm on my cropped sensor camera, will it be the same on a full frame sensor camera?

On the full frame camera the "effective focal length" is equal to the actual focal length, in this case 50 mm. A lens on a crop sensor produces a narrower field of view compared to that same lens mounted on a full frame sensor so the "effective focal length" always increases compared to the full frame sensor.

My USB 3.0 external card reader is plugged in to my Windows 10 PC with USB 2.0 ports only and it works fine. This USB 3.0 reader does operate faster than a USB 2.0 reader plugged in to the same port. When this USB 3.0 reader is plugged in to a USB 3.0(blue) port, it will even operate faster. Remember USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with the earlier versions of USB.

If your PC has an vacant expansion slot, you MIGHT be able to install a USB 3.0 ports. Your computer might have PCI expansion slots or most likely the newer PCIe (PCI Express) and PCIe comes in x1, x2, x4, x8, & x16 varieties with x16 being the fastest and x1 the slowest. You can install a x1 card for example in a x16 slot but not the other way around. Also some of these USB 3.0 expansion cards might require some sort of power source. You can even have combination USB 3.0 ports with USB 3.0 card reader installed on one of the front bays (or even where the existing bay where your existing card reader is now installed) as long as the required power sources & USB headers are present.

My advice is get the USB3.0 external reader & plug in to your USB 2.0 port. It won't be the fastest USB 3.0 reader but in my experience should be adequate. Good luck.

You can download the DNG converter here. Did that with my Panasonic Lumix RW2 files and now I can process the Panasonic RAW files in lightroom.

I have Lightroom 5.7.1 and it does not recognize Panasonic RW2 files. So go to the Adobe website and download the DNG(Digital Negative) converter so that your RW2 files can be converted to the non proprietary DNG files. After that you should have no problems with Lightroom. Interestingly I can directly import my Olympus ORF files to Lightroom.
