Rick, you have Gymnastics down my friend, I wish mine would turn out as well as yours. I love them all, you catch the essence of gymnastics. I love number 6. What does the lady in red shirt to the right see? The eyes are amazing. Keep it up friend. Thanks BE SAFE!!

Tom

I saw her expression as well. Couldn't help but smile. It actually fits very well with her wonderful personality!

Wrapped up my 2024 NCSU Gymnastics shoots with a quad meet March 10. State won, adding three more wins to their season total! They also moved up to #18 in NCAA Division 1 rankings!

Shot with a Nikon Z9, fitted with a Tamron 35-150 f2.2-2.8. Shutter speed 1/1000 at f3.2 and ISO 5000.

I've been a member for years as well. The course I've selected to watch have been very helpful. Plus, I can go back and watch again if I so desire. MY focus has been upon sports photography (DAve Black is great!) and aviation photography. All have been very helpful. I have also reviewed courses covering new cameras I have purchased to familiarize myself with them. Good stuff.

AWESOME as usual Rick. For poor lighting you did well. Keep posting look forward to it. I haven't shot anything in 3-4 months (except one volunteer shoot I did for a local city that I shoot 12-15 events a year). My diabetic feet neuropathy is getting to me as well as my knees. I am looking forward to spring sports starting and hopefully I can get out and shoot some (Baseball, Softball, Girl's Soccer, and some Track&Field events) . Time will tell. Thanks BE SAFE!!

Tom

Thanks, Tom. Sorry to hear that which you are dealing with. Hopefully spring will help with fun distractions and perhaps a little relief!

Shot my first semi pro game of 2024 Saturday evening. Close game with a lot of lead changes. However, the home team prevailed! A few of my favorites from the game follow. Very poor lighting - of course! Shot with my Z9 paired with a Tamron 35-150. Shot at 1/800, ISO 5000-6400, +2.7 EV, aperture as wide open as the lens would allow. Usually close to f2.8. A little Topaz cleanup to boot. Oh how I miss college lighting!!!

When in doubt, try renting a copy of each and see what works for YOU. I use Lensrentals when I need to make a decision on a major purchase.

I was just on a Nikon broadcast where that came up. There is a special type for solar images. Neutral Density are not good to use and could result in ruining your camera.

Lost 6 straight? Sounds like a great record—Arizona Coyotes just lost their 13th straight last night. Glad I didn't have to be there taking pictures...

Yours are excellent, by the way.

Thank you for the kind words. I was living in Glendale when the Coyotes came to Phoenix! I still have one of their funky two faced logo t-shirts!!

They say you can't win them all, but after the initial faceoff, all hopes were dashed as the Marksmen lost their 6th in a row. Not much action around the net by the home team to even capture. Here are a few, though, taken with my Z9 paired with the Tamron 35-150 f2-f2.8. SS 1/1000, f3.2, ISO 2500, EV +1.

It does. Looks like it's better than Lightroom that I use. Thank You!

For me Lightroom does not work as well. Plus, it takes a lot longer than the Topaz products. So I do basic editing (cropping, light adjustment) in LRC then let Topaz do its thing. The images are pretty close to what I want when I send them to Topaz, but I like to tweak them just a bit. I guess I'm a bit of a pixel peeper! LOL!

Great shots! What do you use for noise reduction?

I like the Topaz products. Depending upon how much work needs to be done I go with Sharpen, Photo AI or Denoise. Photo AI when I want an overall adjustment, Denoise or Sharpen when I want to work on the subjects and not worry about the background. Hope that makes sense.

This past weekend was the first of a handful of spring scrimmages for the NC State volleyball team. A lot of fun to watch and see coaches/players I have not seen since the fall. A few images from the scrimmage for your viewing pleasure!

Shot with a Z9 and Tamron 35-150 f2-f2.8 lens. Most shot at 1/1000, ISO 5000 and aperture in the 2.8 range.

Sounds like you are favoring the 100-400mm. I tried one 100-400mm and used it with the 1.4TC to photograph birds, etc. I ended up returning it and getting the 400mm f/4.5. The 100-400mm with the 1.4TC was not as sharp as either my 500mm PF or the 400mm plus 1.4TC in tests that I ran. Maybe I got a bad copy of the 100-400mm. But if you are using it mostly with the TC, I would say to get the 180-60mm. That lens is heavier so if weight is key, then consider the 400mm f/4.5. It is possible that other 100-400mm lenses are better with the TC.
A few photos with the 100-400mm are on my Flickr album:

Like I mentioned, I only have the 100-400 so I can't really give a comparison. I do like that lens enough to not look for an alternative. Biggest thing for me is to use it in an appropriate setting. When I got it, I tried it on an indoor volleyball match. UGLY! But for ME, it is fine outside.

I still stand by my suggestion to rent a copy of what you THINK you want or even both for a true comparison, to see if it is a fit for one's shooting style/requirements.
