I noticed a new cactus flower this morning but after returning home the wind had picked up. In the past this would negate taking my camera and tripod out because nothing is standing still (I've lost control). My recent purchase of a Godox X Pro transmitter has opened up new ways to capture flowers outside even in the wind. I just use the off camera flash on a light stand, setup my tripod and go for it. The flash freezes the shot even if I'm at 1/125@f5.6 as this shot was taken. I back the flash off a bit and use a light modifier to soften the light. Was a cake walk. The only downside to it is carrying more gear. As this was next to my house it wasn't an issue. Controlling the light allows me more opportunities and I'm getting better overall color. Although you can get cheaper transmitters, get one you can grow and do more with later (you may regret getting a pocket wizard, though I have one it's limited in use compared to the X Pro).

Taken with Nikon D7500, 35mm f1.8, f5.6 @ 1/125, Godox X Pro transmitter and X1 receiver, SB-600 flash in TTL, MagMod flash diffuser, tripod and one cheap light stand.

Isn't it great to have discovered the benefits of controlling the light off-camera. I've had the same Godox transmitter and receiver for a few months now and am blown away by the results. I've been hand holding my SB700 which can be cumbersome even with a remote shutter. After hearing about your cheap light stand you've motivated me to start looking for something affordable. BTW, beautiful shot!

I have been using Helicon for focus stacking with my 18-55 Nikon kit lens to photograph my very long and straight model railroad benches, 50 to 60 feet long, shot from the end. The idea is to get a sharp focus in 6-8 exposures focused every 6 - 10 feet. To see the manual focus I use the back screen highly magnified on the various points, but the kit lens, and all my lenses, change focus too rapidly with just a tiny rotation amount for precise focus at a given distance. As a result the stacked shots are not evenly spaced. Are there lenses made that focus more "slowly," that is require a much longer angular twist to vary the focus point?

Attached is an example.

A related question is how do macro photographers focus at the tiny increments required for a very small subject, like an insect? Unless a macro lens, which I do not own, should have a very slow thread for focusing.

Radio slave triggers are more reliable. Save yourself a lot of headaches and get one if compatible with your units. You will not look back.

I have the Yongnuo 968N flash on my Nikon D7509 camera. I am trying to trigger the flash off camera, using my built in flash on the D750 as the commander. I set my D750 to commander mode, mode A, channel 1. I set the 968 to slave mode, mode A, channel 1, but cannot get the 968 to fire. What am I doing wrong?

You have to make sure that the front (red) side of the flash is visible to the built-in flash. If not, the built-in flash can't trigger the remote. I finally gave up on using my built-in flash in commander mode and bought a radio trigger. I believe your Yongnuo has a built-in radio receiver. Radio triggers can fire a remote flash up to 100 yds away.

Perhaps “I am not using Canon ink” is the culprit.

I don't believe it is the ink. I'm currently using LD Products ink and have no problems. I used LD ink in a Canon 7720 for several years and never had a bad print.

Are you using Canon's Print Studio Pro to print? If so make sure you set the color to the defaults. Also, is your monitor calibrated? I too got the low price but right out of the box my reds looked washed out. I called Canon and learned about Print Studio Pro. The rep helped me download the software. I have to calibrate my monitor monthly and now have no color problems.

To the best of my knowledge if you use a Canon printer and Canon paper there is no need to enter profiles. You simply pick your paper from a drop down list.

Makes sense to me. I'll give it a try. And, I would guess that the next update to Ps 2019 CC will drop the CC from the name and I'll have the same problem with the plug-in. Thanks for your help...

I updated Adobe CC tonight. Then I had this (see below). The LR classic icon was corrupted. For the PC users, that ? over an Icon is never a good thing. It means the OS cannot find the executable.

But there was a simple fix. A trip to the Applications directory and drag the LR executable back to the dock and then delete the ? icon. All fixed.

I had the same problem and used the same fix. Unfortunately I lost my plug-in for Canon Print Studio Pro. No matter, I still have it in Ps until I can figure out how to get it back into Lr.

I recently purchased a Fuji X-T30, trading in my Nikon D7100, lenses and flash. I wanted something a bit lighter for travel. The Fuji has a built-in flash but it quite low powered. I would like to purchase a more powerful flash for the occasional times I need it. Godox, a company I am not familiar with sells a couple of dedicated Fuji flashes which seem to get high ratings at B&H and Amazon. The Godox is significantly less expensive than the Fuji flashes. Does anyone have experience with the Godox flashes? Any thoughts on the two models that seem to be available: the TT350F and the TT685F?

They are great, comparable in quality to my Nikon SB700 and a lot less expensive. I use the TT685.

My wife & I are taking a once-in-a-lifetime vacation to London, Paris, & Nice in September. I have a Nikon D750 with 50mm 1.4, 15-30mm 2.8, 24-70mm 2.8, & 70-200mm 2.8. We'll be walking a ton. Any recommendations on taking all of the above (& just suffer through the heavy backpack) or simplifying & lightening the load with just a couple select lenses?
I've also read a lot about taking extra precautions due to theft & pick-pockets (especially in Paris). Any advice on this from experienced travelers/photographers would be appreciated, as well.

Thank you!

Last summer my wife and I took a cruise of coastal Maine. At 77 I decided to go light a regretted only taking my 24-70, leaving my 70-300 at home. I needed the extra reach. I'll not do that again. Missed too many lighthouse shots. Take your 70-200 along with the 24-70.
