I want to thank you all for the advice you have given. I really appreciate the details and found them to be very helpful. Since this is his Senior year I think I'm going to rent the Nikon 70-200 2.8 VR II and an 85 1.8 and do ALOT of chimping! 24-70 has its merits but last year it was really difficult to get up to the edge of the mat unless you had a press pass - all depended on who was administrating the match.

Hope they have mats of the same color this year. Last year virtually every mat was a different color; really made a difference which mat the match was on especially when I tried to get shots of both the Grandson and his team mate who were wrestling simultaneously on mats of different color.

Again, I really appreciated all the detailed suggestions.

I'm using a D7000 and have tried to get shots of my Grandson with a Nikon 18-200, Nikon 70-300. I have had better luck with a Nikon 50 1.8 but the lighting of these indoor matches still baffles me. I'd like to use a 70-200 F2.8 both for the zoom and the F2.8 capability but the cost of a Nikkon lens is steep to me at this time. Wondering if the Sigma and Tamron 2.8 versions would be almost as good or even go with a Nikon 70-200 F4 or the Tokina F4 version.

He going for State in 2 weeks so I'm in a bit of a rush.

Thanks, Bill

Great shots! To my taste you captured the movement of the water perfectly.

Very simply because it's a Pro level camera. U1 & U2 options are only used on Prosumer level bodies like D7200, D610, ans D750 currently. Same reason you don't see "Auto" mode on Pro level bodies. Not needed or wanted.

I understand the answer but not the rationale. "Auto" mode I can see would be superfluous but but I'd think U1/U2 would be helpful; guess that's why I'm not a Pro. Might be one or more other reasons as well :?.

The D7XXX series and the D750 have U1 & U2 modes while the D8XX has something I think is called "Banks" that reset anytime a operation change is made while using them unlike the U1/U2 which are "fixed".

I find the U1/U2 modes to be very helpful on my D7000 and was very surprised that the D500 did not have them.

Any idea why Nikon does not include these modes on their Pro Level cameras; do you have to be a Pro to understand the rationale?

Supposedly the built in Flash was eliminated because of a potential weather proofing problem but I do not think that would be the reason for not including the U1/U2 modes.

Thanks to you and JD750 for your suggestions for Jeffery's EXIF viewer. I have it installed in FireFox and it is giving me all the info I was looking for.

You can use Preview it will show EXIF info. Open the image with Preview press CMD-I. See attached.

Or do you want something more elaborate? Something that will work within a cataloging program?

This gives me all I wanted if I work with photos stored on my desktop but is there a way to implement this on photos I download from UHH without first storing them on my desktop?

Thanks, Bill

Looking for a recommendation for an EXIF viewer for my MBP. Tried DetExif and find it lacking.

I am leaving to Antartica the first week of January 2016. I am taking my Nikon D750- and I have the following lenses 50 1.8G, 24-120 4G ED VR, 70-200 4G ED NANO VR, 70-300 4.5-5.6 G VR, MICRO 105 2.8G ED VR. I was thinking on taking the 50 mm, 24-120 as my main lens, the 70-200. Should I get a converter for my 70-200 or take the 70-300. I do not own a flash, should I buy one for this trip? Does any one have any tips or advice for this trip? I will be taking pictures of Ice most of the time so I am a little worried on the outcome. Thanks for your input.

If your a seasoned "Tripper" read no further but if not, you might consider reading two articles in http://www.photographylife.com/category/tours-travel on choosing and planning a trip. I think you'LL find them helpful. They are not too long. Have a great trip. Bill

Today I bought a new Canon 5D sr camera (50.6 MP) today. I took these Bald Eagle photos not knowing all the settings yet. The one photo of the Eagle is about 200-225 feet and the other is about 175-200 feet using 896mm total.

Your work gets better and better - detail is amazing. I appreciate the distance information you include in your picture discriptions; wish more Hoggers would follow your example. Getting some new hard drives to store all those pics ☺️??

Enjoy the new toy, Bill

Yesterday I purchased a little Canon PIXMA printer, with cartridges, for $34 plus change at my local Walmart. In the next aisle they sold various printer cartridges. The two cartridges for this printer would have totaled $40 plus change. Who wudda known? I don't know if this is an issue for high end printers or not because I have prints made commercially.

Not unusual that these "original" cartridges have less capacity as the refill. It used to vary by brand and to some extent by model within brand. I have not visited this area recently.

The Nikon D7200 outperforms the 7D2 in every way with the exception of frames per second (6fps vs. 10fps), and does so at a much lower cost.

I'm not sure you can draw any conclusions from this but I saw that the D7200 was available for $799 (refurb) on the NIKON site today. Could this foretell the announcement of the 7200 replacement in the near future? Maybe they just have a bunch of extra inventory????
