There is a lot of confusing about lens and their perspectives. A 50mm lens might be like a 75mm on a "crop frame". But this might be a better way of thinking about it.

That might be of some help to newbies, but people who know photography, or advanced armatures know about the relationship of formats and equivalents. Any Pro that dosen't , god help him.

I've become less and less excited about my photography. When anyone with a smart phone and a few apps can crank out decent and sometimes even good photos, I find the thrill has gone.
Using digital cameras and Photoshop has left me feeling more like a technician than an artist. Chimping after every shot and making corrections as needed- then moving them into Photo Shop has killed the thrill. I was to the point of even selling my 5d MkIII. I decided to keep it, but I'm going back to film for a few months. Bought a Canon 1V and ordered 10 rolls of Tri-X and chemicals to develop same. Will scan negs instead of printing, although I may break out the enlarger at some point.
I think, having to get it right in the camera, was half of the fun and the challenge. The wait to see if "you got it", made it exciting. It's a - pitting my skills against everything that can go wrong - kind of thing.

I've been taking pics for 70 years, and I think I have a style. Film, darkroom, slides, and now digital. Some manipulation was always done, and now digital offers as much or as little as you like. Relax and have fun doing whatever you want to do.

I'm sorry, Anne, but you don't seem to have a clue what street photography is. Google it.

Hi all, I have a question regards these photos. They were taken handheld inside a large building with tube lighting, people playing bowls. I adjusted the cameras white balance for strip lghting but all the photos have come out with a Blue cast. All the photos are JPEG, next time I'll do RAW aswell.

Anyone out there have suggestions for:
1. Any in camera adjustment I can do so it don't happen again?
2. Is there a way I can adjust the photos in camera BEFORE I format the card.
3. How to get rid of the blue cast using Photoshop, Lightroom, GIMP or Picasa?

Most post proscessers could handle this problem. I used Arcsoft Photo Studio 6. Color balance and a little levels adjustment.
Many thanks for any guidance.

Baz

What would be the practical difference between using a camera like, say the 7D MarkII, with mirror lockup and a mirror less camera? I get that the mirror less is sans mirror, but as a practical matter in terms of results, would there be any difference?

I think it's the future. Sony's E mount seem to accept, with an adapter, almost any lens from any manufacturer. People are taking pics with old Leica lenses on modern cameras. Sounds great.

I am seeing a spot on the images produced by my Canon ELPH 100 HS. I have a number of bigger and better DLSR and Power shot camera but this one has been living in my pocket or briefcase since 2010. It is always there so I use it a lot. Recently I was on a hunting drip. Took a photo of my buddy in front of an active Oil Rig in the early morning light. I noticed this spot.

I cannot see any spot on the lens system. The spot is always in the same location and varies in size and intensity with the zoom level.

I will have to fix this or get another camera. Fix it means fixing it myself.

I have two photos. One at 5mm zoom. The other at 20 mm or full optical zoom. Look at the photos.

What do you think. Dirt/Mold on one if the lens elements?

Anyone have experience disassembling one of these cameras?

The dark spot is at full zoom.

I had an Elph 100 and within the warranty period it developed a spot worse than yours. Canon told me they dont fix them, and sent me a 110. Two years later it got a spot similar to yours.

It was out of warranty, so I checked all the options and bought a 160 for a reasonable price. I put up with all of this as it seems to be a problem with Elph cameras. . It s a great pocket camera. It's low light capability amazes me. Since I spend some time in bars that's important

Many thanks, MIKE.

Im sure it will all come clear in time.

I did not mean to leave the impression that I ain't having fun,m'cause I am.

I want to look at you chap's work and get to some in comments of my own. I was a teacher (drawing/painting) for a long time and the urge to critique is powerful stuff.

Thanks again.

You have a good eye. As a teacher you have knowledge of techniques, such as the "Dutch angle". Keep shootin'.

Available light usually needs some prepossessing. Color balance, color temp, or levels. This edit took about 3 mimutes, contrast, levels, color temp, and sharpening.

Maybe you could get rid of some of the Blue. Maybe levels, reduce in the blue channel.

Square came about with twin lens reflexes. If Rollies had a horizontal screen, it would be really difficult to take a vertical, think about it. So they made TWL format square.

APS-C was good enough for pros before full frame cameras came out. If you have unlimited funds go wherever you want. For most of us on a budget, APS-C or good four thirds will work out very well. I'm an amature and I am really happy with my DSLR results, and also happy with my pocket point and shoot camera.
