Yes it should be great for stars. I have also used it for lightning pictures.

I have this lens and use it on my D7100. One use of this lens is for interior shots. I used it to photograph each room in my daughters home for real estate purposes. It was great for capturing the entire room while standing in the doorway. It would come in very handy for sight seeing in Europe for church, castles, cathedral interiors as well. The F:2.8 is good for those places that prohibit flash use. There are many landscape uses for this lens but composition takes some re-thinking or re-education, mainly to include appropriate foreground features to make your landscapes more interesting. That is my 2 cents worth, YMMV.

I use a 1Dx with the 70-200 Canon lens. I use the centre spot focus point only. In the viewfinder it is a hollow faint black square with dots around. On the LCD afterwards it becomes a bright hollow red square, showing where focus point was. Is it possible to have the red square in the viewfinder to ensure correct focal point, rather than the faint black. The faint black may not always be too evident, allowing a very different and catastrophically bad result.ie over or under exposure. I use partial metering setting for accuracy. A recent example was dark horse in bright water. instead of horse , I had the spot on the bright water, hence blackout. Asked Canon, but no response. Hope to hear. many thanks.

I am confused. How does the auto focus point have anything to do with exposure settings?

A power of attorney is no longer valid once the person granting it has passed away.

Just tried two shots of the moon with two different cameras. 1st one is with my Nikon D7100 with a 55-300mm at 300mm and heavily cropped. 2nd one is with my SX50, heavily zoomed. I think the Nikon wins. (Might have been better if I could ever remember to turn of the VR when using my tripod!)

For those old enough to remember the song,

Nice photos of the B-17 Flying Fortress. After serving 27 years in the US Air Force as a pilot, I am young enough to remember the song which is still the official song of the USAF. Obtw, the first line off the song is "Off we go into the wild blue yonder". Cheers.

I got a new lightning trigger from Greece on ebay. First change to test it out was last night. Here are the best two shots I was able to get. Taken with a Nikon D7100 with Tokina SD 11-16 F2.8 (IF) DX II AT-X Pro.

I've used EXIF Date Changer for making corrections.

This one seems to be the winner. I took a look at Exiftool but the command line syntax seemed a little too daunting for me (and I have a Masters in Computer Science!) I downloaded the EXIF Date Changer and it does everything I need and has a reasonable and easy to use interface. I did purchase the "Pro" version of the software as the free version only works on Jpegs. The web sight said the "Pro" version was $19.99, but on checkout there was a 30% discount, so I only had to pay $13.97 for the full featured software. I have all ready used it to change the dates on a few hundred files in 3 separate batches, both Nikon NEF (raw) and JPEG. Bottom line: problem solved. Moving on to importing files to Lightroom as I am slowly learning that software. Thanks to all who responded with suggestions and assistance. Once again UHH came to the rescue.

Exiftool works on any image file.

One thing that might be interesting (as in it could make life difficult) is if you have the NEF file and on occasion simply extract the embedded JPEG for use. That embedded JPEG will have the original date/time stamps. If you really want to do it... I'll show you how to extract the embedded JPEG, modify the dates, and then put it back into the NEF file with the new dates. It's a tedious task...

I have taken a quick look at Exiftool. It looks like it will be the one that works for my situation. I will report back how it works out. Thanks

You can also use this tool to see how many date/time metadata fields are in your image files. I just checked a Nikon raw file and there appear to be at least 6 date/time fields. For completeness, you may want to change them all to the same date.

The problem I am finding is that most of these programs only work on jpg files. I need to make the changes in the Nikon NEF raw files and these programs spit out everything as jpg.
