Good afternoon, hogs,
I want to print some family photos on canvas. Can anyone recommend a good reasonably priced online source?
Thanks in advance for the help.

I've used canvasHQ for several canvas wraps and they are excellent. They also have a 30 day guarantee return policy. The frame that holds the canvas is very sturdy and well built. They also run discounts regularly up to 35% off. I highly recommend them.

I entered five photos. This one received a ribbon. I'm pretty happy about that.

I have a Manfrotto tripod that I like but it does not take Arca Swiss. I am considering getting a different tripod or at least changing heads.

I think I want to be able to use an L bracket. I am interested in feed back on L brackets and their use. I use a tripod quite a bit and seldom do vertical shots because of the hassle. It seems to be the way to go but it is an investment so I want to be sure.

I use both a full frame camera and also a D500. I see several choices for brackets for the FF - RRS, Kirk and others. As far as I can tell, RRS does not have a bracket for the D500 but I did find one Kirk model. Is there some reason not to use an L bracket on the D500? I was surprised RRS did not have one (unless I missed it). EDIT: RRS does have one. It is just currently out of stock.

I would appreciate any advice on these subjects.

I have an L bracket I use on my Canon 5 D MKiii from RRS. I love the fact I can switch from horizontal to vertical in a matter of seconds with no problem. I can highly recommend RRS eqipment. This L bracket works great with my RRS ball head. Good luck.

Hi all,

I have been asked to repost my Emerald Bay photo... with the option of viewing high rez.

I’m so sorry for posting twice! My apologies, I am still learning how this site works!

Thank you!

Very nice capture. I've been to Emerald Bay several times and it is a beautiful place.

I use Downloader Pro. I purchased it maybe 10 years ago for $30. Definitely was worth it.

My copy is set up so when a card is attached to the computer, the program is launched and the card is accessed by the program. I then see a page with thumbnails of the images along with the list of capture dates. I can click on a date and the program selects all the images taken on that date (from the EXIF data on the file). I can then select or deselect other files or dates in the normal way (ctrl-click, shift-click).

I have the preferences set up so that the program asks for a "job code". I give it a short text string describing the subject of the images I have selected. I can then download the selected images from the card. The preferences tell the program to take the job code and use it for the file name and the folder name. For example, if the job code is "Suzie's Birthday Party" all the files are renamed "Suzie's Birthday Party YYYYMMDD HHMMSSss.NEF" (I shoot Nikon raw only). YYYYMMDD is the date, which sorts the same numerically and chronologically. HHMMSSss is the time, hours, minutes, seconds, hundredths of seconds (to allow for my camera's ability to shoot up to 14 frames/second or even 30 frames/second in some modes). The preferences tell the program to copy the renamed files to a folder ../Photos/YYYY/[job code]/RAW (if you shooot jpgs the program will copy to a similar folder .../JPG).

You're mistaken about Adobe and the Creative Cloud, already noted.

Any modern operating system on your computer can read the CF card and copy the files onto the hard drive of your equipment.

Depending on your camera type, you might even have software that came with the camera to edit the image files. You can provide more details and / or investigate on your own.

Thank you for your reply. I forgot about the software that came with my camera. Very helpful.

Similar to the proverbial saying about a mule, it sometimes takes a 2" by 4" hunk of wood to let me know when to comment or not. At least I'm trying. Should anyone have heartburn about that, PM me. Don't take up this post.

As it is, rmalarz comment about the free stuff and Bill_de about Paintshop Pro and On1 are great. BTW, On1 did offer a free version 10 or 10.5???, (they may not anymore??? Contact the company to find out for sure), a free version. You might also consider Capture One Pro, (My favorite)

Besides just looking at photos everything mentioned above have a lot of great features included too.

I use FastStone to make folders and to move images from SD card to folder. Then I use Capture One to process the RAW images. Then I use Zoner Photo Studio to resize and sharpen. I use Amazon Photos for storage. I post images on 365project.org and sometimes on Instagram.

Irfanview. Free. Hardly any learning curve at all. VERY easy to use.. has everything but layers. Even has Gamma Correction, which few programs have.
With ANY program, make a folder in which to KEEP your originals and then make copies to edit. Do NOT edit the original. At some point you WILL be sorry if you do. Label your folders so it will be easy to find any photo any time.

Thank you very much for your response to my inquiry. I'll look into it.
