I have shot about 150 photos, with viewing about 1/2 of the shots at time of photo taken. I have also done some setting up of the camera as well. May be too early to complain about battery life. Will keep monitoring the situation. Just seems to be draining much faster than my D7100. Thanks for the response. Love the camera!

After several charges it will get better.

I don't consider any phone a camera but they are able to produce photos in certain lighting conditions. This summer I did see someone with a cell phone at a professional motorcycle racing event with a media / photo credential. Maybe they were doing head shots or some blurry photos and videos.

I have the a6000, and I've never seen dust as being a problem. Maybe I just live in a very clean environment.

I’m in Canada (Toronto) and bought a used US model D300s. I had it serviced at Nikon Canada with no difficulty. When I asked, they advised me that they were unconcerned about the origin of the equipment. I have also had Nikon equipment serviced at the independent Sun Camera not too far from my office and they are authorized by Nikon and can get any parts needed if Nikon Canada has inventory. With exchange rate, I’d suggest that all you Americans worried about “gray market” seriously considering dealing with more friendly Canadian repair services.

Great suggestion.

Get the serial number of the D500. 21,000 clicks on that camera is less than one fifth of its shutter lifespan. A USA DX camera of that quality, is a bargain for $800. If, it is a Gray Market, I wouldn't buy it. Even for $800.

The D500 shutter is rated for 200,000 actuations so it's more like one tenth but it not something I ever worry about. If the S/N starts with a 3 it's a US model, mine is 3000224.

Or the ones after the "food stylists" get done with them in the studio - they don't look anything like what is served across the counter or through the take out window.

This might help as far as Sony A9 vs. Canon / Nikon pro models

You're 100% correct.

But there is a word in Austrian German dialect slang that comes to mind that would work in this case - you'd be referred to as a schneebrunser - or someone who writes in the snow . . .

Really, ALL day hmmmm....? impressive

All day, yes sir. These were all shot 5/4 and 5/5 at Virginia International Raceway with a 300mm on a D500 but a monopod wasn't necessary.

For motorsports I use a 3 section Gitzo GM4532 monopod (66# max.) with a Wimberley WH200 II gimbal head for heavier, older 400 and 600mm f/2.8 D II's that weigh just under and just over 10# each.

I will occasionally use an RRS BH-55 ball head on a Manfrotto 681B (26# max.) with 5.6# f/2.8 D II's and the newer 6.4# 300 f/2.8. These are light enough that they can be hand held all day though, which is what I usually do.

Both DX and FX bodies are used with both of the above.

I had the above lens since new - now I need a focus unit for it - my camera repair guy is unable to find one, and my search via the internet, to say the least, is frustrating - any suggestions where I might find Nikon Lens parts? Thank you

I was able to find the OEM part recently so I purchased one. The AF-S 300 & 400 f2.8 D II's as well as the 500 & 600 f/4 D II's all take the same unit and I have all of them except the 500.

I will send you the info later today, working right now.

If the AFS goes out on the 80-200, Nikon no longer fixes that lens. I have the one currently still in production, the 80-200 AD D-ED

Scott,

APS in Morton Grove, IL and Midwest Camera Repair in Wyandotte, MI are both Nikon authorized repair facilities that do repair these lenses. The only problem (so far) that I have found is finding replacement bayonet mounts that Nikon no longer produces and the fastening screws for them.

Focus motors are still available (if you know where to look) and I have spares for my 300's, 400 and 600 that are all AF-S D II models.

Check Ebay, they are overloaded with 14-24's, most are like new and going for +/- $1,000. The highest right now is $1,600.00 or Best Offer.

I just bought one on Ebay (from the Leica Store in SoHo) for $1,025.00. It looks like it just came out of the box, maybe used once or twice.

Yes, I have it and love it. I also have and love the AF 180mm F2.8 D EDIF. If you want something like the 70-200 but a bit less money, you can't go wrong with the AF 80-200 F2.8 D ED. I'd stay away from the AFS version as Nikon can't repair the AFS motor anymore.

APS in Morton Grove, IL and Midwest Camera Repair in Wyandotte, MI are Nikon Authorized Repair Centers (just two of several) that repair / replace the ring focus motors, do lens calibration and other repairs. The ring focus motors are still available. The ring motors for the 300mm and 400mm f/2.8's are also still available.

Nikon D500 DX DSLR Body Purchased as a refurb from Adorama, 4493+ clicks (5000 maybe? it was used after shutter count) $1200
Comes with charger Battery & Nikon Strap. Does not come with D500 Box since it is a refurb.
Super Clean and well cared for.
My price is both fair and firm. Pricing is positioned to beat Adorama Used price by 5% for a camera of equal condition.

That's a great price and I would buy this if I needed another one but I also have two of Nikon's best full frames so I'm set for now.
