I have been using Nikon D7100 and love the camera. I have grandkids that play indoor sports. The D7100 struggles a bit with indoor gym lighting and using higher ISO settings. Well, I just got the Nikon D500 and used it for a Butler University volleyball game last Sunday! Whoa, what a difference. I am just learning this camera so I am hoping to improve photo quality even more. Example, I thought I adjusted the WB for the florescent lighting....forgot to hit the designated ok button and didn't change the WB! I was using the Auto WB setting and the darn camera was pretty much nailing it. I am so happy with this camera. If you are on the fence, I hope you can take the leap. I don't think you will be disappointed. Many pros about this camera...that being said...I have so far one con...I am not liking the battery life for sure. Anyway, just my humble opinion about the Nikon D500...

The D500 is a great camera. I have over 200,000 clicks on mine. I use it for sports.
Good luck and have fun.

I love my D500. I've had no battery life issues.
I generally use auto ISO/WB. The D500 nails it about 95% of the time.

I got my 500 four months ago and love it. I think it’s the best camera ever made. I have not had an issue with battery life

Make sure the airplane mode, wifi & Bluetooth are set to off in the setup menu.

I have shot about 150 photos, with viewing about 1/2 of the shots at time of photo taken. I have also done some setting up of the camera as well. May be too early to complain about battery life. Will keep monitoring the situation. Just seems to be draining much faster than my D7100. Thanks for the response. Love the camera!

Hey Frank. Thanks for the post. I have turned ON airplane mode. Still trying to be sure I have every battery draining item turned off. Think I have them but will keep viewing youtube for something I may be missing. Man I love this camera.

Hi Bob. About how many photos can you get out of one battery with say a normal amount of sneaking a peak

I get about 1300 shots on a battery. If that helps?

Oh my gosh! I’ve used about 1/2 battery life with about 160 photos.

Oops. Glad you caught my mistake there. Yes, airplane mode on, wifi & Bluetooth off.
I easily get over 1000 photos to a battery charge.

Another for the D500. One thousand shots per charge is conservative even doing a reasonable amount of chimping.

Add a vertical grip and 8 Eneloop aa's and just fugetaboutit. Of course the vertical grip is also nice for shooting verticals.

I have two D500's. Here's a tip. The video record button can be re-programmed to execute Mode. Mode is in the group of four buttons on the top left of the camera but it's much more convenient to have it close to the shutter button. You can switch between manual, aperture priority, shutter priority, and program mode much faster.

Humm. Thank you for the info Frank. I hope battery life gets better. But, I am just a hack. Shoot my grandkids at school functions and sporting events. Rarely would I take over 200 photos in an evening. I will gladly carry 2 extra batteries if I need to. Being able to shoot at 3200+ ISO with this kind of results is so much fun. And the WB is just crazy good!

Thanks. That is much more easier. Question-is there a button that can be changed to show last photo taken? The D7100 allowed for the PV button to do that. I have looked as best I can without finding that option.
