Enjoy all of your posts. All of these photos are great. What flash was used for the team shot? Must be nice to be out shooting. We received 6 inches of snow on Friday and our high temp was less than 10 degrees on Saturday.
If I were shooting the same subjects around salt spray as you do I would always use a filter, especially a polarizer when lighting is correct for it. It might be possible that your stuck filter was a result of the salt spray and maybe you will have to clean the threads each night. I saw an autofocus lense which did not work due to dried salt spray.
Out photography group was taught to always have a polarizer on our lenses and only remov them when they didn't improve the photo.
