I have a D7100 in perfect condition with few shutter count. I now use a smaller camera and am willing to sell the D7100 at a very reasonable price; well below a refurbished camera which probably isn't available.
Let me know what your friend is willing to pay. I am willing to help!

I like the simplicity and weight of the D5300. I bought the D5300 as a backup for my D7100 but I seem to use the D5300 for most of my casual photos. And it's not too expensive! Good image quality and better noise performance than the D7100.

I use Nikon Image Space sometimes. It's very easy to manage. Upload images to the site, create a link to those photos, and send the link to those who you consider may be interested. Then they can view the photos at their leisure or not.
I especially like to use this method for the photos I take at family functions and then send the link in a group e-mail. Very simple!

GIMP - but has a menu learning curve.
Light Zone - Very nicely done.
Dark Table - another nice program
Fast Stone - another nice one.
If you use Mac, Phocus is pretty nice.

Not only are the above free, but they also include, at no extra charge, a learning curve.

If you have a Mac, try the resident PHOTOS app for camera exposure adjustments and Adobe Photo Elements for pixel editing.

Thanks Bobby. What final resolution do you recommend for an 8x10 print?

I think the print size is irrelevant. I usually use 1200 samples per inch for a final print resolution of 300 pixels
per inch.
Can other guys please comment if this correct procedure?

Basically Nyquist's digital sampling theorem dictates sampling at greater than or equal to twice the final desired resolution.

Photos for basic exposure tasks. PE 13 for pixel editing. Don't do graphics.
