Could I have read somewhere that this can be done with Lightroom 5? If so, can someone advise as to how?

If you can get by with a 15' cable, rather than wireless, you can save yourself over $300.

Cost may be a factor if wireless proves too expensive, I really need to go wireless if possible, but tethered may be my only choice.

I'm still open for a few more suggestions as this thread is still new. I do thank you and all who have chimed in so far.

My main inquiry is what exactly is needed equipment-wise. I was under the impression if I went tethered all I would need is the proper cable. I'm wondering if a Mac would come equipped with what I need as far as software is concerned. I had read somewhere, although I don't recall where exactly, that a Mac has the software already installed that would enable camera to Mac functionality. But then again, I may have misunderstood.

I am stumped to exactly what I need to do in order to have my images display on my MacBookPro during a photo shoot. I need a client to be able to review each shot I take immediately after I take it. This is a product shoot and each shot needs to be approved as I take it. The camera's LCD is obviously too small to see fine detail. I would like to do this wirelessly. What exactly do I need to purchase, equipment involved, etc.? I'm hoping some of you expert Hedgehogs can offer some insight. I need to do this shoot later this week so any help would be truly, truly appreciated.

Hi RAW, I'd be happy to share some of my work, and tell how I did it, but not sure how to do it off line? How do you exchange emails on this site, other than just publishing them outright?

Why not share with all of us and post the images right here? I'd love to see them as I'm sure most of us here would.

Don't pass up the opportunity to shoot Red Rock Canyon & National Park while in Vegas. TONS of great scenery. I shoot a lot of models here and have shot weddings here too. It's beautiful natural back drop in every direction, N,W, E and S. Sunsets in particular are amazing. Red Rock is only 30 minutes west of the Las Vegas strip, which of course is a no-brainer must to shoot as well. Be sure to shoot the strip at night, including the famous volcano at the Mirage.

None of the cameras there have it. The 7100 doesn't have it either.

I'm not talking about Interval Timer Shooting, i'm talking dedicated time lapse straight out of the camear like d600.

Thank you though!

I'm sorry. I misunderstood. The D7100 (at least mine does anyway) have interval in the video mode. I don't know about true time lapse in either video or still modes.

SS, you're going to look darned silly if Bill posts a picture of an HO model caboose. LOL

Speaking of which, I do all kinds of photography, mostly people… model ports, head shots, boudoir, nudes, pets, product, architecture, etc. Are there any restrictions as to what kind of images can/cannot be posted in this forum? Just curious.

Yes, the D7100 does do time lapse movies.

Sorry, but it's downright insensitive to ask people what they make. Do you ask fellow employees how big their paycheck is when everybody gets paid. How Rude?

Furthermore, it's geographically impossible to guote rates across the country.

Cessna moved a Certified General Aviation Lancaire plant from Bend Oregon to the SouthEast part of the US, because they can hire cheaper help there.

Likewise, a major acquisition company is buying up all the pleasure boat factories, Bass Boat factories, and I/O boat drive units around the country and moving them to the SE US.. Hmm wanna guess why.... They'll tell you. Cheap labor.

We lost a Sea Swirl factory here in Central Oregon. My brother in law had a management position. He could have moved to the SE US... no moving expenses and a cut in pay.

With that in mind, the SE US is NOT a great place to start a photography business, or is it. We don't know all the COL factors, so how can we give you meaningful information.

Get a clue!

My suggestion is to get off your butts and research your local photographic markets.... galleries, pro photographers, etc.

The answers are not here and we don't know your expertise and your marketing skills.

Now, if you want to ask about photography, post processing, composition you are in the right place.

If you want to know how much money we make, it's none of your business, and PLEASE don't buy a camera and then ask how good it is, or if you got a good deal. If you don't know whether the price was good or right, .... guess what. You probably got screwed.

Please, folks?????
Sorry, but it's downright insensitive to ask peopl... (show quote)

So sorry if I offended anyone here… my intention was not to ask anyone how much they make for a living, as most of the people in this forum, from all that I have read, don't necessarily make their living with photography, but may charge for photography services as a part time thing, which is more or less a sideline business for most, although SOME perhaps may make a living at it, many here enjoy photography as a hobby. And, being that I thought this forum was for sharing information regarding photography, I did not think my question was out of line since many DO talk about selling their photography services and most folk on here compare information about everything from lenses, to lighting, costs of equipment, how to do things, just about anything and everything that has to do with photography. My question was not with ill intent whatsoever. Apparently many others here didn't think my question was out of line either as many replied with various answers as to what rates they charge in their respective markets, which I really appreciated. But I guess there's always one in every group who feels they need to judge someone else's behavior and make a statement as if he/she is the ruling figure for all to obey. You were the only one who replied negatively and took insult to my question. So for that, I apologize. Perhaps if you feel a member of the forum posts a question you want no part of, you should take no part of by not responding. And life goes on. Happy new year.

Yeah, those days of am radio when many of them were what is called "clear channel", meaning of course the ONLY station in the country on a specific frequency, allowing the signal to bounce (skip) without interfering or mixing in with the signal of any other station. Used to listen to WLS (Chicago), XERB (Mexico), KFRC (San Fransisco), KHJ (Los Angeles) and many others from around the country… all while I was growing up in Sacramento. I loved radio with a passion, knew I wanted to be come a radio disc jockey since I was 7 years old… now I'm retired with 32 years in radio. And loved every minute of it.

72 dpi and 800 at the longest side is sufficient. However watermarking clearly is the best way since you can still reproduce it.

Thank you for your reply. The link for watermarking you sent is for Windows. I'm on a Mac. Know of any free watermarking programs for Mac?

Still trying to get some answers… my original question, in part was "What do you consider a fair rate today for different genres of photography such as portraits, weddings, pet, product, etc.?"

There's been a few responses to my original post no one has posted anything on RATES.

Anyone want to chime in on this?

On the positive side: Those "photographer's" don't last long. There is no way one can shoot "a wedding" for $200. A couple of posed studio portraits maybe and even then, only with inferior lighting....
Might be an interesting exercise for someone with too much time on their hands to see just how long these cheapies last on Craig's List, and even more interesting, to interview the subjects after they have received their wedding photos.

How true for the most part, but some of those craiglisters, believe it or not, have been around for quite awhile. As for results, I've had brides and grooms turn me down in favor of the $150 photog, then bring me a CD of the images and ask me to fix them. Of course I said "NO WAY!".

But, as to my original question… what do YOU feel the going rates should be today for portrait, wedding, pet, product, etc., photography? Rate for shooting, rate for editing, rate for disc of images, rates for prints?

Would you want to hire a cut-rate photographer for "that special day"?

Absolutely not, BUT… there are too many people out there who are more concerned about a cheap price than they are about quality. And what do YOU think rates should be for various types of shoots? I remember the days of $3500 for a wedding, now a wedding shoot can be had for $200 or even less (craigslist).

Seems the craiglisters out there with a camera call themselves a pro and work for next to nothing, driving the going rate for photography way down. Your thoughts on this? What do YOU consider a fair rate today for different genres of photography such as portraits, weddings, pets, product, etc.?
