I spent a lon time removing Facebook app from my phone last night, the bugger didn't want to go and kept trying to reinstall. Bagged it at last. I didn't use it much except to see my wife and daughters posts, can still get there via the chrome browser. Hadn't realised how much data and battery usage that app used.

That document is well worth reading, I guess Mueller has read it already. I've only skimmed it and found some gems. Makes me wonder about, are there any other apps doing bad stuff.

Excellent download Jim. Snow might be better than the fog, frost and never ending rain!!

I moved over here over twenty years ago and still miss the mild always unexpected weather back home. Rain and fog are great for moody shots. You don't know what you've got until it's gone.

Like most here I guess a bit of anything that's in front of me when I have a camera. Most of my best pictures were when I didn't have a camera. However my advice to someone asking what camera to buy would be buy one you can afford with a good lens and start shooting learn from there because you are going to buy many more cameras and lenses in your career amateur or pro. Of course it will make a little difference on what you want to make pictures of but that may only affect the lens choice at first. As you get better or change what you want to picture you will find that you will have to give up some other things to buy more equipment. And don't forget the GAS effect when you are hooked, this pass time is an adiction!

Back in the day although I had a stack of lenses all primes except for two zooms later on. I found my self with my 24mm f1.4 Canon FD aspherical on the camera and 85mm f1.8 in my pocket. Used my feet for zooming. Now even though I still have all my Canon FD lenses and still use them on a Sony a7, I mainly use OMD EM1mk2s and alternate between 12 - 24mm f2.8 pro and the 40-150mm f2.8 pro with the 1.4x. It seems the latter spends more time on the camera. I do like primes though, I have four of the voigtlanders, the f0.95 the 42.5mm is really good low light candids. Primes instil discipline I find. Can't say I'd be happy giving up any of my lenses. Carriing so many keeps me fit. :-)

Don't rule out Nuclear power yet, there is a safer version Thorium which was ruled out because the military wanted plutonium for the bomb. There is a lot of interest in Thorium reactors in other countries so it may come the the USA after everyone else has it.

Oil and coal companies will go away, yet electricity will become incredibly cheap? That would be a neat trick... Solar and wind only produce a tiny fraction of the electricity we use, and it would take *huge* areas of land being set aside specifically, just to make a dent in that. There's always nuclear, of course, but public opinion keeps that out - everyone wants cheap power, but nobody wants to live next door to a nuclear plant...

Some of your changes will undoubtedly happen, of course, but there is a lot of wishful thinking in there too...

must askmy doctor for one as well, my last one died. Then I have to get it into the house past my wife, allergies you know.

I once read that studies show taking a statin every day increases your life span by a little over 2 years, but owning a cat and petting it regularly increases your life span by 5 years. I wonder why my doctor doesn't prescribe cats?

Even in my film days I never understood the over zealous attempts to reduce noise. I on the other hand used Tri-XPan a film with a pleasing grain which suited my style of photography. Instead of trying to get rid of nois learn to live with it.

rmalarz wrote:
The only experience I can share is that similar to visible grain in high ISO films, noise is just part of the equation when one starts using high ISO settings in digital. Learn that it's just part of the image when using high ISO settings. Though, exposure techniques can reduce the amount of visible noise.

With the seemingly inordinate objection to noise in images, I wrote an article on noise and its reduction. https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/user-page?upnum=1537

Ibis is not essential but makes lif a lot easier. I held a five second shot and cannot detect any movement blur in the image with my OMD EM1.2 amazing. When I was shooting film I found it difficult to hold a half seccond and I was much younger then. I do have a camera without ibis, the Sony a7 (bought it cheap) so I can make good use of my Canon FD lenses. No problem there I don't miss the ibis on that setup, it's just like the old days Canon made lenses with great character.

You can do it in camera automatically with the Olympus OMD M1.2 and 60mm macro lens. I believe you can have the shots either combined in camera or left separate for post processing.

I believe it is a common practice in micro work. Where they get those awesome shots of small things. Camera on a rail guide and incremental moves forward with a constant lens setting. I wanted to do it, but the bugs wouldn't sit still long enough.

Gosport inquiry: GP 'responsible' for practice of lethal opiate prescribing which may have killed up to 650 patients at NHS hospital, inquiry finds.

The truth to this story if you look, is not dissimilar to the problem here in the US. Only we have thousands. The opiate sickness is the responsibility of the drug companies not ether healthcare system.

As someone said all healthcare systems have their problems. Maybe it is better for the poor to be turned away because they can't afford their medicaitons, so they can die quietly at home or wherever they fall.

British “free” healthcare

British hospital managers covered up the unlawful killing of as many as 650 patients, a report finds.
