I have both the Tamron 150-600 G2 and the Nikon 200-500. I have used both lenses on a D500, a D810 and a D850. Mostly on birds. Both are excellent lenses, but I feel the 200-500 acquires focus a little faster than the 150-600. The 200-500 is also a little faster at the long end than the Tamron. f5.6 vs f6.3. And I'm on the long end most of the time. I think also that I can track birds better with the 200-500. These observations are, of course, subjective, and perhaps the 200-500 just fits me better than the Tamron. I won't bore you with specific comparisons as there are a great number of them on the web and you can do that research.

I think you'll like either lens and either would serve you well. That said, I do use the 200-500 more than the Tamron.

I agree with the juvenile black crowned night heron. And he does look cold.

Yes, a yellow rumped warbler, first winter female. She will brighten up a bit in a couple of months.

Nope, what you have there is a female red wing blackbird. Minus her tail feathers. They don't look much like the males.

Star Walk is another app that is good.

Yes, just checked and it works fine on mine.

I spoke too soon. I can find no way to turn VR off. With my D5300 and D500 there is a menu item for optical VR which allows you to toggle the VR on and off. Not in the 7100 apparently. But otherwise it works just fine. If you don't mind the VR being on all the time.

My guess is a northern rough winged swallow. But I am not sure on this one at all.

It would help if you all would indicate where the photo was taken when asking for bird ID.

I'll revise my ID. It does look more like a brown creeper. Hard to see the curved beak in your photol

That would have a little hard to do as the first known photograph was taken in 1826.

I have one and it works well on my D5300, You do have to update the firmware to the latest version. I just got the lens yesterday and have taken some shots on my morning run. I have no complaints about the sharpness, but as I said, I haven't taken that many shots yet. I expect to use it along with the other P lenses for a lightweight travel kit. Not so great in low light, but I have a 35 f1.8 for that.

If I am going to be doing serious photo stuff,i.e., wildlife or landscapes, I'll use my D500 or D810. This kit is for putting in the truck while I am out and about.

I do like the new DX lenses. For what I intend to use them for, they are just what I need. And they pair well with the D5300. Small, light and handy.

Yep, you're right, but the wording is the same. Same lot numbers. I suppose it can't hurt to check your batteries, particularly if you got them separately from the camera.

You all are aware that the recall was issued in 2012, are you not? I suppose some of those batteries are still out there, but I suspect not very many at this date.

I think its a yellow rumped warbler. His wings are folded over the yellow patch on his rump. Their plumage varies a little depending where they are. Pretty good shots, they are hard to get.

Nope, its a tricolored heron, I do believe. A little hard to tell from the photo, however.
