I find that video inspiring and touching. I put in a little over
twenty years in the Army from Oct '60 to Jun '81; did 'Nam
Jun '67 - '68.

I was 'hit' the past couple years by the actions of a couple of
my three kids, however. I briefly commented to my daughter
earlier this year about not getting recognition of Veterans Day
last year. Her response was something along the line that
"being in the military is as applying for any sort of job"; that
it is not something anyone 'has to do'. I think at the time of
our conversation, she was roundabout referring to jobs such
as Police and/or Fire Fighters, as we have a couple relatives
who are Fire Fighters in Texas.

Of course, I didn't get any personal recognition for Veterans
Day from them this year, either. Oh, well . . .

I don't know if they changed it or not, but I tend to recall that the word 'and' was not to be used when saying a number; such as "five hundred and forty seven" for 547. I recall learning that it should be "five hundred, forty seven" - - leaving the 'and' out. Now I hear it in almost all cases when a number is spoken, and it tends to irk me.

I sometimes point out to servers in restaurants that I saw a sign in their restroom saying that 'Employees Must Wash Hands'. They give me a questioning look, and say something along the line of, "Well, - - yeah...!?!?" I then tell them that I waited ten minutes, and ended up having to wash them myself.

Wouldn't it be nice if that was the only gang violence we had instead of idiots in the streets not waiting for all the facts

Sadly in too many cases they don't need facts - just excuses . . .

Looking at your posting and the various comments from others,
I now have to wonder about all the 'Blue Jays' out there . . .

I have to agree with the others that that is a very nice photo
of an interesting place! Whenever I see an old place like that,
in photos or in real life, I often wonder how it may have been
for those old-timers to have walked away that last time... Did
they turn to look back that one last time as they walked away
with perhaps tears in their eyes? And, if they knew that they
or no other family members would move back, did they bother
to lock the doors? Granted, the family might have continued to
live elsewhere in the area and maybe farm the property; but,
- - Oh, the memories left in that home . . . !!

I'm sorry, but what happened to email? I liked that because it was
connecting to a select group and not the whole world like FB seems
to be. I thought it was easier for forwarding pictures to family, too.
I sadly found family members and friends dropping from emailing
and going go FB, which I too don't care that much for.

Wow! It's been a long time since I've been up to the UP.
My parents and my older brother and sisters were born up
in Negaunee and Ishpeming. Dad's job brought them down
to Illinois during the war, and that's where I was born, along
with my younger siblings.

Thanks for the pictures! That is one of those places
where I often wonder if the previous tenants/owners
have ever driven by, and memories brought on a tear
or two. And I agree that that fireplace is unique, and
maybe brought on ideas for future structures.

I was stationed (Army-wise) at MacDill AFB by Tampa, FL,
and they had an annual air show which included such fly-bys.
It was always interesting to see . . .

These brought to mind some signs that I 'play with':

- At a local Post Office there are signs along the building
near the parking lot that say(?):

Don't leave vehicles running

I had to ask why they don't use signs that simply say:

Walk Only

-----------------------------

- Then another is in public rest rooms when I see signs:

Employees must wash hands

I then tell an employee there that I waited for ten minutes
and no one came in to wash my hands, and I had to wash
them myself.

I'd heard/read that one before, but it caught me again this time.
I guess that 'nurse' blocked my line of thinking, too.

My wife and I are looking at being cremated, and I have
often wondered why I have never seen a ceremony at a
crematory, and if families actually get the ashes of a
specific person, or do they get ashes of several bodies
cremated at the same time.

Also, of I recall correctly, there was an incident a good
number of years ago when a guy who did cremations
was charged with having a lot of bodies rotting in the
property behind his crematory. He gave the families
ashes from wood or whatever. I don't recall how that
story ended....

That reminds me – I need to get out my father's old negs and scan them. He was in WW1, and I have his old cameras which still work. One used 4" x 5" glass plate negs, which I still have, along with plastic negs from his Kodak 1a which he bought in Paris during the war. That one has a date of 1904 in it, and a metal plate with the name of the store where he bought it.

There are pictures of bands playing on warships, tanks, bombed out cities, etc.

About this comment above, I have to say, "Wow!!"
You must be proud.
I hope you have someone to pass them on to . . .

Ahhhhhhhh! I fell for it hook line and 5 sinkers. What's worse I think I had seen this before quite some time ago after my memory banks got over the shock and finally kicked in. Dahhhhh? Thanks for posting.

Wow! This comment above is mine, too!
I remembered having seen it before, but not until I read the ending . . .
Now, I will forwardize it to the few family and friends I have left.
