I would think most of us have pet peeves like habits or actions of others that irritate us. Most of us probably have several pet peeves. Before I mention here this particular pet peeve that irritates me no one needs to accuse me of believing I'm perfect. No one is perfect and I may have habits that irritate others. I'm well aware of that. Okay here it is: People who rest their left foot on the brake pedal of their vehicle when driving causing the brake lights to continuously come on and off. When I see the brake lights of a car in front of me come on I assume that person is braking for some good reason and I prepare to brake if need be.

I can relate to that. As a retired truck driver with around 6 1/2 to 7 million miles behind me, I have seen my share of that. I could add a long list to that, but I won't.

This a new peeve for me. I was trying to watch a video on learning GIMP. The kid kept going on and on about GIMP's antialiasing (AntiahlIahsing) capability. Does alias (AlEus) have a new pronunciation because it's anti? Couldn't seem to learn anything from him because every time he mispronounced alias I thought he was a moron.
My wife says I'm just grumpy.

I live in the south but grew up in west Texas where speech and culture leaned more California style. My Ex was military and we were stationed in Alabama then North Carolina. It took some time to get used to the new culture. One of the things that really took some time to adjust to was that Beach Music was not the Beach Boys and Jan and Dean but the Embers.

There are several phrases that irritate me but the top 2 are: "axe"---Were you going to axe me a question? and "fixin to"---I'm fixin to go to the store.

Working retail for so many years these were daily irritants. It's a wonder that I have a tongue from having to bite it so I wouldn't correct the speaker. Some days I had to step on my toes as well.

I tried to make a post of pet peeves but got shot down. Maybe too thin skinned.
I have a couple, of course, top of the list for me is when I hear a educated person say something like: Me and my brothers are going to the store. I taught third grade English and I stressed put the other person first. Another one at top of the list are digital clocks. I'm late for something and hurrying as fast as I can and that @#$%^ thing clicks off another minute so I'm later yet. Just two put there's more and I've noticed as time goes by the list gets longer

I live in the south but grew up in west Texas wher... (show quote)

How many times have you heard "I could care less" when they actually mean "I couldn't care less"? Inconsiderate people irritate me like those able bodied individuals who park in spaces for the handicapped and those who leave shopping carts in automobile parking spaces. It's common for people to complain about the younger generation but being inconsiderate is not specific to any one generation.

True and part of the problem lies with parents who have children but take no time to educate them in manners and common courtesy. Here in NC children are only taught what they need to pass the test not what they need to succeed in life. Very sad!!

Same thing in Texas, I taught for a lot of years and when Bush's test came out, lesson plans and curriculum went out the window

How often is heard "irregardless" when is meant (I guess) regardless. The correct usege and/or pronunciation is "undisirregardless." Geez people, get it write.

Double negatives in peoples speech eg. "They didn't do nothing to help me!". In my head the question arises "What did they do then?". Presumably they meant to say that someone DID nothing!

I have many of these but the most recent is using "sale" for "sell" and visa-versa. "We sale car parts" or "Car for sell". Also recent sayings such as "I know, right?"

Totally relate to this one, especially "I could care less". I guess folks don't think about what they are saying & in the case of leaving shopping carts in parking spaces....not thinking at all.
