Either camera would probably fit the need but the kit lens? I would probably go with a good used body and then as time went by and I got some experience start getting some good glass. I found out that there is not a short cut when it comes to good glass. For that reason as stated above I would probably go with the Canon as the lens availability for them seems to be easier to acquire. If you want to photograph wild life you will need some glass with some reach. Birds are especially challenging with short focal length. You need more that kit lens for your interest.
Still have the eye and study hand for good picture. At eighty three it is good to know that there is something to look forward to. Happy BD and keep that positive attitude.
Amazing architect good shots
Set your camera to raw and jpg both and then download and process your raws in program that edits raw files. Takes some time to start with but worth effort in my opinion as that is all I use. If you have Canon software their is the best I have found for Canon files. You are all set.
Have you tried the Eneloop rechargeable batteries? I have used them for several years. They maintain their charge on the shelf and hold up longer that any other that I have tried. Panasonic I believe has acquired them but still are made and sold under the Eneloop brand. I have used them for about eight to ten years. I have had some for years and they still recharge good. I have tried other brands of rechargeable but were not satisfied with them.
One of my favorites also. I just have the blue now but need to add another color.
Do you compete with her? If you do you would have some stiff competition. Excellent work.
Jeep daddy gave you some good advice, I do the same. Just have minimum resolution for your thumbnails.

How about teenagers? That can reminds us of out pass but we see what our parents went through.
I would suggest you go to Youtube and or do a search with google. Also there are some good books explaining the exposure triangle. It is not easy to explain in a few sentences. Unless you want to shoot auto you need to learn the basics and then it will start to come together as you study and practice/
