On a Canon there is a multiplier of 1.6 on a cropped camera. Your 100- 300 was taking 160 -480 before and is taking 100-300 now. This is why I kept my 7D when I went FF. For telephoto work, the crop is an advantage. For everything else, I prefer FF. Bab

just wandering if it was a 150-500mm ,would it be better results....i have the same lens in Question now 100-300mm thinking of upgrading to the 150-500mm or would it be better to get the extender?... good post Mike

Sketch paper and watercolors might provide a suitable substitute. Might not cry so loud if they were lost or stolen. ;)

love the response and actualy thats what i am worried about( theft) while i go in the water, is going to be more of a pain?

I never take a camera to a swimming environment unless I plan to take the camera in with me or have someone to keep an eye on it.

Good point :-)

I feel your pain. Want to take but want to have fun and not worry about your equipment. A quandary for sure. Guess you could leave your camera at the hotel when you can't have it in hand. Good advice I have read is to carry your equipment in a ratty looking bag so it is not an appealing looking target to a would be thief. Also have read to use a little black electrical tape over the Nikon (or whatever) and a generic camera strap so it will not look expensive.
