Great cloning work. The rest is good as well but I think you were wanting us to see the clone edit.

If you do...try and move back a bit, and make the aperture a slight bit smaller too, this would look better if both eyes were in focus, not just the front eye.

Have him face the window like you did...that works great.

So, on a photo like this when you want both eyes in focus, where do you put the focus at, using spot focus?

Nice photos

Well...this might not be right but I'd always focus on the nearest eye...and the far eye is either in "good" focus or "acceptable" focus. I don't think it's possible to get both "razor" sharp without a large DOF and some distance between the camera and the subject.

OK, so then something like f/16 or 32 at twenty feet and zoomed in to fill the frame should be good, right?

:)

Though that would do it...probably could be less aggressive like....

Assuming he's using a 100mm lens (I thought he was) and just assuming that he's 36" away, and his aperture is f/2.8 he gets at DOF of 1/2". Certainly not enough for both eyes to be in focus.

BUT....

By using f/5.6 (only 2 stops) and backing away to 60" he gets a DOF of 2.9 in". That seems like it would do it.

Hey, OK gotcha. just a little distance when you're doing a portrait does the trick. Thanks much

I just realized that I hijacked Thinker's great post.

Thinker, I'm sorry about that. I get carried away every now and again. I'll have to watch it. Waiting to see what the hat looks like
