This image was done as a promotional piece for a old cowboy bar & restaurant in Prescott Arizona. In the background the bar was the same bar Doc Holiday, Big Nose Kate, and the Earp brothers use to rink at. You will see a small towel under the bar. That was placed there to make it look like 1864. The cowboys use to wipe there beards after they had something to drink. All the wardrobes are period correct.

This was a six light setup. Hope you enjoyed the history of this capture.

The backdrop of this capture was done on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. Little Miss Gracie my granddaughter was captured on a rock by my pond in the backyard

There is always some Photoshop but there are a lot of lights and one cutter on this capture.

Taken the other day in my studio as a joke. It all started with cleaning out my mother in laws home to put it for sale. In the closet I found an old violin, then the fun began!

I like it very much but the green stem going through the leave on the right is disruptive to me. The diagonals work for well me. The background camera right give visual interest to the image. One thing I would try is to give the top of the flower a little kick to camera right instead of a full vertical.

I agree with the fingernails. I took the wrong one off my desktop. I had to change the nail color. I'm not sure how to delete this one to put the other one in it's place.

I took this as an example of low key modified butterfly loop lighting. Brooke is 14 years old and loves books. The parents love the look and of course purchased the image, but would a highschool senior buy this, I don't think so--Open for discussion

This image was taken in Monument Valley Arizona. Bella is a three year old Navajo girl. and lives on the Navajo reservation. This image was taken inside their Hogan. A Hogan is a round home which has juniper logs on the inside with dried dirt covering the exterior. The door in a Hogan always faces East so they can wake-up to the rising sun. In the top center there is a hole about three feet square. The eight inch vent pipe from the wood stove runs through this hole, leaving plenty of room for light to pass down through the hole to light the inside of the Hogan.
I used this beam of light along with my Westcott Scrim Jim to light Bella. If you don't own a Scrim Jim from Westcott your really missing out. The kit comes in a carrying case with frame, a white and silver reflector, along with a 3/4 stop scrim. It's worth the investment!
I'm going to be running "Portraits of The Southwest" two and three day workshops in Monument Valley come April. The workshops will be based on landscape, and Native American portraiture. Lunches will be traditional Native American food. If you have interest please e-mail me at aiyanastudio@gmail.com
