This orchid was photographed at the Philadelphia Flower Show with an ISO 400, 50mm prime, f/11 at 1/60 sec. w/flash.

I was wondering how you feel about the background regarding the green on the left and the white orchids on the right. It would be simple to take them out. Do you think either side distracts from or enhances the subject?

Of course, any other C&C is welcomed. Thanks. 8-)

I like it just the way it is. It keeps it real. A beautiful shot.

I am not a critic. Personally I think this is a beautiful flower. The background, IMO, adds rather than subtracts from the shot. The orchid doesn't look lonely. I probably would have positioned it to the left so that it was just inside the border, and possibly a tad lower, but that's me. It'a a thing of beauty!!

It adds a little extra interest, but in a case where I can't decide I usually save it both ways. Beautiful shot.

Thank you for your opinion Six-Gold, yes a tad lower would be nicer, Mr Orchid is a bit cramped on top. 8-)

Thanks PhotoBug, you are right about saving it both ways, although I do not yet have a copy created without the background, something I can always do of course. 8-)

I would prefer not to see the green lines intersecting the flower on the left I edited it and looks better with all taken out and just a black background.

Great shot,I keep scrolling it on and off my screen and my eye picks up the white background first, which is just me of course! Maybe some burn to fade them just a bit more would help for me,but if nothing were done, still a great shot!

Great shot Bmac, The green stick, on the left is a little distracting to me, and I think it could be removed. The white orchids in the right backround are not so distracting, but if you could somehow blur the whole backround it would be more interesting to me. Love the shot of the orchid

Darken the background and you'll see the difference. Beautiful shot!
