IMHO.... there are realy only 3 things that effect climate on this planet. Solar activity, volcanic activity and the changing temp of the oceans. 2 of them effect (do no water, though Methane on some moons) climate on all the rest of the planets in our solar system.

Currently, we are in the 24th Sun cycle and, though some say it may "double dip" before the end of the year, it has been the least active of the last 4. We currently are running at about a 12 to 15 degrees below normal during this cycle, on earth, Mars, Venus and Mercury. Infact the Messenger mission in orbit around Mercury has been sending back some very interesting data that shows it is experencing what could be called " Global cooling ".

ps: just for kicks... log on to spaceweather.com and you can see what the Sun is doing (or not doing) on a dailey basis.

I went to Micro Center today to buy another compact flash memory for my Nikon D200 only to find out that all the compact flash they have is refurbished. Anyone ever heard of or bought refurbished memory? The brand is Sandisk and it looks like retail memory except the back label reads refurbished. If there is nothing to be afraid of it is cheaper!

Thanks

This is more common than most people think. There are 2 primary types of so called referbed products. The first is the overstock case which has made companies like the big O so popular. The second has to do with warranty returns. An item is returned to a dealer under warranty. The dealer returnes it to the OEM, who tests it etc. and, in many cases there is nothing wrong with it. Cockpit trouble showes up in a very high persentage of warranty returns. The OEM can not resell it as new, so it is sold, discounted, as factory referbed.

Wanting a plamp alternative.
I just looked online for this item and found it pretty pricey for the product...
Can anyone tell me how to make one for myself?
Where to get the parts?
I've not been much of a diy person, I am just a grammy...But over $40 is a bit much.

I built somthing some years ago when doing some macro small product work. What I used was a coupe of pipe cleaners twisted together and put a pair of needle nose alegator clips (from Radio Shack) one on each end. I then (on little bit larger parts) clipped the "part end" to a 4" square piece of clear plastic.

I've searched the UHH site to see if this issue has been discussed, and did not see it. If it has, please forgive me for the redundancy. Is it possible to recover images from a card that has been formatted?

I've used Pandora recovery for several years and it's never let me down. All a format (or a delete in the case of selected files) does is change the 1st 2 bits of the TOC. In some cases that may be called a FAT table, but it basically is the table of contents.

THE $2.00 BILL I TRIED TO SPEND:

Everyone should start carrying $2 bills! I'm STILL laughing!!

I think we need to quit saving our $2 bills and bring them out in public.

The younger generation doesn't even know they exist!

I carry 3 $2 dollar bills. One of them is Canadain! And it's worth closer to about $3 dollers! Have had lots of fun with them.

Dusty

STORY: On my way home from work, I stopped at Taco Bell for a quick

bite to eat. I have a $50 bill and a $2 bill. I figure with the $2 bill, I can get something to eat and not have to worry about irritating anyone for trying

to break a $50 bill.

Me: 'Hi, I'd like one seven-layer burrito please, to go.'

Server: 'That'll be $1.04. Eat in?'

Me: 'No, it's to go.' At this point, I open my billfold and hand him the $2 bill.

He looks at it kind of funny.

Server: 'Uh, hang on a sec, I'll be right back.'

He goes to talk to his manager, who is still within my earshot. The following conversation occurs between the two of them:

Server: 'Hey, you ever see a $2 bill?'
Manager: 'No. A what?'
Server: 'A $2 bill. This guy just gave it to me...'
Manager: 'Ask for something else. There's no such thing as a $2 bill.'
Server: 'Yeah, thought so.'

He comes back to me and says, 'We don't take these. Do you have anything else?'
Me: 'Just this fifty. You don't take $2 bills? Why?
Server: 'I don't know.'
Me: 'See here where it says legal tender?'
Server: 'Yeah.'
Me: 'So, why won't you take it?'
Server: 'Well, hang on a sec.'

He goes back to his manager, who has been watching me like I'm a shoplifter, and says to him, 'He says I have to take it.'

Manager: 'Doesn't he have anything else?'
Server: 'Yeah, a fifty. I'll get it and you can open the safe and get change.
Manager: 'I'm not opening the safe with him in here.'
Server: 'What should I do?'
Manager: 'Tell him to come back later when he has real money.'
Server: 'I can't tell him that! You tell him.'
Manager: 'Just tell him.'
Server: 'No way! This is weird. I'm going in back.

The manager approaches me and says,
'I'm sorry, but we don't take big bills this time of night.'

Me: 'It's only seven o'clock! Well then, here's a two dollar bill.'
Manager: 'We don't take those, either.'
Me: 'Why not?'
Manager: 'I think you know why.'
Me: 'No really, tell me why.'
Manager: 'Please leave before I call mall security.'
Me: 'Excuse me?'
Manager: 'Please leave before I call mall security.'
Me: 'What on earth for?'
Manager: 'Please, sir..'
Me: 'Uh, go ahead, call them.'
Manager: 'Would you please just leave?'
Me: 'No.'
Manager: 'Fine -- have it your way then.'
Me: 'Hey, that's Burger King, isn't it?'

At this point, he backs away from me and calls mall security on the phone around the corner. I have two people staring at me from the dining area,
and I begin laughing out loud, just for effect.

A few minutes later this 45-year-oldish guy comes in.

Guard: 'Yeah, Mike, what's up?'
Manager (whispering): 'This guy is trying to give me some (pause) funny money.'
Guard: 'No kidding! What?'
Manager: 'Get this. A two dollar bill.'
Guard (incredulous): 'Why would a guy fake a two dollar bill?'
Manager: 'I don't know. He's kinda weird. He says the only other thing he

has is a fifty.'
Guard: 'Oh, so the fifty's fake!'
Manager: 'No, the two dollar bill is.'
Guard: 'Why would he fake a two dollar bill?'
Manager : 'I don't know! Can you talk to him, and get him out of here?'
Guard: 'Yeah.'

Security Guard walks over to me and......
Guard: 'Mike here tells me you have some fake bills you're trying to use.'
Me: 'Uh, no.'
Guard: 'Lemme see 'em.'
Me: 'Why?'
Guard: 'Do you want me to get the cops in here?'

At this point I'm ready to say, 'Sure, please!' but I want to eat, so I say,

'I'm just trying to buy a burrito and pay for it with this two dollar bill.

I put the bill up near his face, and he flinches like I'm taking a swing at him.

He takes the bill, turns it over a few times in his hands, and he says,
'Hey, Mike, what's wrong with this bill?'

Manager: 'It's fake.'
Guard: 'It doesn't look fake to me.'
Manager: 'But it's a two dollar bill.'
Guard: 'Yeah? '
Manager: 'Well, there's no such thing, is there?'

The security guard and I both look at him like he's an idiot and it dawns

on the guy that he has no clue and is an idiot.

So, it turns out that my burrito was free, and he threw in a small drink

and some of those cinnamon thingies, too.

Made me want to get a whole stack of two dollar bills just to see what

happens when I try to buy stuff.

Just think... those two are of the age to be voting!

What I do with mine is mount my camera at about 45". That way I can quite easily still use it to posistion my camera where I want to point it.

Right. That's how I did it, and it did number them in order - but it didn't number them in the order I had them in. Many we're one after the other, but many were randomly scattered. I'll play with it tomorrow.

Thats what I like about ACDsee. You can put whatever you want in the bucket and then just batch rename it and number it how ever you want.

Fact! In my case though, it takes 2 guns. My Remington 1100 pigeongrade trap and my Colt National match Goldcup 45 (with a 22 cal conversion). Both date back to the 1967 era. The Remington got me from the 24 to the 27 yrd line in 83 with the ATA and I can still write my name with the Colt using my semi-wadcutters that I load. Oh and yes NRA and X Air Force Pistol team (Korean era 52-62). Camera wise, my tired ol' Miranda slr is still hanging in there too.

Golly... I have been "restoring" errased files and pics since my Dartmouth DOS days, even before using "Tdos" (Tandy). Back then we used "disc dr." to get to the atributes and chang back the 1st 2 bits. Back then, and for many years it was called the "Table of Contents", now the Master Boot Record, but all that happens is the 1st 2 bits is all that is changed. That is why sensative HDs etc. are over written no less than 256 times before being scraped.

Not a pro anymore as retired, but as a hobby, I don't go out the door without my Casio Brigade in my shirt pocket and my blue tooth in my ear. My Myranda slr and my Pentax dslr won't even be in the car unless I'm headed for a shoot. Don't even carry around my Toshiba p&s. My cell phone
has turned out to be my "best camera".

Hello, computer gurus. Well, I've been trying to get some pic's I took with my phone, no, not an Iphone, just a simple mobile phone, to my elements organizer for 3 days now.
Pics were downloaded to the Verizon "On line album', from there I moved them over to "My Documents", (windows 7) opened a file, gave it a name, but lo and behold, I just can select them with elements so I can work with them. Does anyone know what is about this file that I can't select it with my PShop?

Thanks for your help1

Your phone may well use a smart card (mini sd) to store pics, vids, etc. If so, you can just remove the card and put it in a card reader and access it with exployer and copy the pics that way.

Well, when you do get to "shoping area", you may still see if there is a Harbor Freight Tools store there. They stock several such $ 0.99 puzzels, from the bi-plain, to a motorcycle, dinasores etc. Quite cute and easy to punch out and construct.

Dusty

ps, another 20 th century toy was the cordless phone, long before the cell phone era. It got followed by hooking it to an answering machine.
