Recent solar flares provided us with some awesome aurora recently. Some of the displays were visible from East to Northwest, filling the sky and casting an eerie green on the snow.
Friday night, March 16th, straight up!
Another view a few minutes later
Above the garage, looking East
Nice shots! A lot of people stay indoors during our Alaskan winters, but there's a world of opportunities out there when we bundle up and head outside with the camera. A couple weeks ago during a "warm spell" when the sky was crystal clear, I shot Denali from a hill overlooking Fairbanks. It appeared to be so close that it was just beyond the city limits!
Really nice! You gave me an idea--I'm going to try sepia on some aurora photos. The forecast is for clear skies and active aurora tonight (Thursday). Thanks for sharing.
We had another 12" of snow late last week, and the nighttime lows are 20 below AGAIN, so I'm all for Spring!
Springtime in Alaska (or not)
Ditto on the very, very nice. I love the sharpness and the flowing water.
Wow, perfect mirror image!
Roger, I'm a transplant from the Richmond area, and we had several cacti growing in our yard and in pots. The blooms were always incredible, so your great shots bring back memories. Thanks for sharing!
Great shots of a beautiful bird. We don't have many colorful birds here in Interior Alaska, so "outside" color is always appreciated. You must have been very close or have an awesome telephoto! Thanks for sharing.
Wow, right place and right time! This forum really opens up the world to us photogs that we wouldn't normally have the opportunity to see. Thanks for sharing.
We have some great places here in Alaska, but your shots of the high country are simply awesome. Keep up the good work, and please share!
Wonderful shots of "hometown" America. I agree, Sitty Hall is great. I guess that's where most of the politicians can be found. HaHaHa...
Very nice! I can't wait for the snow to melt here in Alaska so my wife's green thumb can get to work. Springtime doesn't come here until late May, but the sun is shining 18 hours a day then so things grow really fast here. Thanks for sharing.
Great sequence of shots! Most of the ones I see here in the Interior of Alaska are very cooperative, but mostly still and sitting in trees.
Al, I moved from the Richmond area to Alaska about 4 years ago, and those shots really bring back memories. I remember taking a photography class (pre-digital!) through the community college, and one of our shoots was from a high area near the SunTrust bank building on the south side of the James overlooking the railroad yard with the river and city in the background. We started shooting just before dark, then into the darkness, and it was great fun. Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful shot of the lake. It looks like the pier is leading you into the water!
