What you described, bothers me a lot. I was the brunt of one of those episodes, consequently I seldom post anything on this site. Sad, isn't it? I actually have a tablet beside my computer with the names of the frequent abusers. You would be amazed at my tally. It is only a few....but they are reliably rude.

The more I read responses from some UHH members, the more I wonder why anyone would ask or take any advice from some of those responding. I found this post quite entertaining. Perhaps too many just don't enjoy humor....

Why is 50mm generally considered the transition point between what is considered wide angle and telephoto?
It seems that this would vary depending upon format and even to a greater extent the subjective opinion of someone.

Why are there 3 feet in a yard, 12 inches in one foot, and 2.54 cm in one inch? Convention!

In response to a post about new things found in the oceans, I proposed we waste money looking for deep-space answers that will never have any significant use for mankind as a whole while shorting money that could be used for research that could have an immediate impact on our health and well-being. As I said before, I'm not opposed to space research but it needs to be limited for the most part to near-space exploration.

This seems a bit like the old complaint, "why did we spend so much money to put men on the moon." Well, very little actual material resource was used. The real cost of the program was to employ scientists, technicians, factory workers, chemists and other AMERICAN support people who built the program. It put food on tables, sent kids to college, payed for braces, and provided medical benefits to thousands of Americans. The actual value of the "stuff" sent into space was negligible....as it is today with deep-space exploration. Space exploration created advances in health and medicine, transportation, public safety, consumer goods, energy and environment, information technology, and industrial productivity. It also required and produced rapid improvements and advances in many fields, including telecommunications, micro-technology, computer science, solar power, GPS, and the invention of the microwave. Practicing science is often expensive. Is it worth it? I, for one, think that it is!

Although I no longer have a darkroom, I still enjoy shooting on film. My first choice is a Bronica GS-1 (6 x 7 cm) medium-format camera. It was once called the Japanese Hasselblad, but I find it much easier to use. 120 film is readily available and I use "the Darkroom" for processing and digitizing.

Shooting film is like smoking a pipe....it is a slow, deliberate, and satisfying process.

I am not a fan of a
subscription model or cloud based.
I have looked at Luminar Neo and ON1.
Does anyone had experience with either software?

This is not an answer to your question, but perhaps an alternate solution. Photoshop Elements and DXO Photolab are available for direct purchase (not a subscription). Both are very capable and relatively easy to learn.

I have never used Neo or ON1 to compare.

Frank. Through the years, I've purchased parts from Rock Auto many times. I have two old Jaguars (69 XKE, 94 XJS) and an old Chevy Silverado that occasionally need parts.

Unless they have changed, Rock Auto has a very generous return policy.

Looks interesting. Any idea if it can be used for one two cameras while seated? I pretty much have to shoot seated or in a wheelchair these days but find it difficult to use two cameras as I often do with two old school hippy straps. I always want my cameras attached to a strap around my neck or on a tripod. I am a bit clumsy and do not want to drop a camera.

Hi lamiaceae. The length of the straps can be ordered from the company, and are adjustable. You could crank them up to your armpit, or allow them to dangle down to your hip. Problem might be if you get the straps too short (adjusted for the sitting position), it might be difficult to get the camera to your eye???

How do those interface with OpTech? I looked them up and they look like a proprietary connector?

Hi Moonhawk. The "button end" attaches to the camera lug with its attached tether. Just stick the loop through the hole in the lug, and push the button through the top of the loop, and it is secure. I believe each connector is rated for 200#.

The "snap end" has a slot through which the harness goes. Just take a loop end of the harness, pass it through the slot, and reattach the loop to its connector.

It may seem proprietary, but it is actually very simple in concept and design.

Thanks. That camera has a focal plane shutter that has a 1/1000th second shutter. You adjust the spring tension and choose a different with slot to adjust the shutter speed. The lens is a 180mm f4.5 Zeiss Tessar.

Yup. When I was a mid-teen, my dad gifted me his 3.25" x 4.25" Speed Graphic. Dad was an engineer working for Eastman Kodak. The camera was factory-new, and Dad could get film and chemicals at a huge employee discount.

The camera had a focal plane and leaf shutter, Zeiss lens, Kalart rangefinder, double extension bellows, and ground glass back. It was a fantastic camera and it produced some superb images. Sadly, I sold it to a friend in college.

I use OP/TECH products and find them very comfortable and secure. I prefer the "Dual Harness." It can easily be configured to support two cameras, one left and one right; or one camera (left, right, or center). It is a two-point anchor system, one at each carry lug. I like having the tripod mount free.

I have paired the OP/TECH dual harness with the PEAK DESIGN Anchor links. I find this the easiest, fastest, safest disconnect system available.

I carry a D500 and D810, and sometimes one or two Bronica GS-1 (medium format) cameras without fear or fatigue.

Digital cameras do not need "motor drives." Motor drives were used to advance the film and cock the shutter in analog (film) cameras.

I frequently buy on-line. Generally my experiences are positive. I've had outstanding success buying from Japan, and disappointing success buying from China.

IMO, there needs to be an international law that would require all internet sales to include: Country or Origin, Point of Shipping, Estimated delivery date, and Tracking Method. I like to know where the item was made, where the shipping warehouse is located, the estimated delivery date and have a way to track my items.

I find Amazon to be the fastest and most reliable, eBay to be good depending on vendor and shipping location, and most anything from China very troublesome. In general, merchandise from China takes several days to leave their warehouse, several weeks in customs at their end, more time in shipping (whether by ship or plane), and then customs inspection/processing and delivery time in the U.S. I've ordered photo equipment from vendors in Japan, and received them in less than a week.....all well packed and "as described" or better.

Based on my experience, I would tend not to purchase from China, if I knew the origin before purchase. I do use PayPal, which does give relieve/refunds with purchasing disputes.
