A beautiful set. Mahalo for sharing.

Thanks JoAnne for the nice comment. Hope your weather is a bit better than mine tonite (minus 3 celcius and snow flurries). Have a super week.

Excellent captures of 2 birds that usually don't pose that well. The nuthatch and jay seem to be doing a fair job for you this time. Keep up the good work.

Day # 15 - Date : Sunday, October 29, 2017

If its one type of bird that I don't worry about seeing tis the Woodpeckers. I have 3 types that are guaranteed to visit my suet stations every day. The smallest of these characters is the Downy Woodpecker. I have 2 families that have been coming to feed all this year. However, appears they only brought one fledgling this year which is down from previous years. They seem to be the first in whenever I refill my suet log, just as though they are sitting up in the birch trees all the time (probably are :-)). The 2 families are quite easy to tell apart as the size of one is quite small (size of a large sparrow) whom we call PeeWee. The other pair is larger, getting close to the of a small Hairy.
Hope you enjoy the pics of the first of 3 regular Woodpeckers that frequent our yard.

#4 is really lovely.

DeeAndre for looking and commenting. I was pretty happy at the results of #4 seeing that due to the darkness I had to go to 3200 ISO here.

Dove hunting is a big thing in some states
Pennsylvania has had a dove season as long as I can remember. I quit hunting a out 40 years ago but as I recall doves are very hard to hit. They are surprising fast and eredic in flight when necessary

Yes WDCash I realize that the Dove is a game bird in quite a few states. Like you I gave up the art of hunting many moons ago. I used to hunt primarily to obtain sufficient food for our family to make it through the winter. I find that these days it cheaper to hunt my meat at the closest grocery store. I still do quite a bit of hunting however I've traded in my shotgun for a camera.
Thanks for looking in, and I do appreciate the kind comment.

Day # 14 - Date : Saturday, October 28, 2017

It's a sad but beautiful sound in the spring when you have perhaps a half a dozen of these birds singing their mournful song. I usually have a minimum of 6 of these birds with me for most the year. In the cold of the winter most leave but at least 2 to 4 stay with me. Some days when they invite their friends over I end up with a dozen under my feeders. A pleasant quiet bird whom causes no problems like their cousins the Rock Dove (Common Pigeon). They are voracious eaters so I have to cage some of my feeding stations in order to have some seed for the smaller birds (finch, chickadee, nuthatch etc). At this time there seems to be plenty of these birds around but that may be changing shortly. The states of Michigan and Wisconsin which lie just south of us here in Canada are planning on making this bird along with the Sandhill Crane game birds and setting up a hunting season for them. They call this progress but one wonders if it truly is. I think they should instead make the Common Pigeon huntable instead. That's my feelings on that subject, these birds are just too beautiful to kill.
Its starting to snow right now so it appears winter is on its way. Wouldn't be Halloween up here if there wasn't a bit of white stuff on the ground. Hope you enjoy these pics of my feathered friends.

Ron,
Where is here? Sorry I had not read your post when I asked if it was a peanut.

Where is here you ask. Well let me say that as I look out the window I can see a bit of white stuff in the air. Am presently residing in the great north of Canada where we will have snow on the ground for Halloween. As for the bird eating peanuts, these characters would probably eat anything they could find. Mine will also at times pick up and eat sunflower seeds but I think that is too time consuming for him.
Thanks for looking in and for the kind comments.
