Day # 12 - Date : Thursday, October 26, 2017

Birds in a tuxedo is what I call them. Usually they look so prim and proper when flitting through the back bushes, but at times they also can appear as ones that have been to an all night party. I guess it just depends on what kind of a day it has been, sunny or stormy. I have 2 families of these characters whom are with me all the time. One pair is quite a bit larger than the other, not sure why, just thats the case. Makes it easier to tell them apart. They are quite taken by my home-made peanut butter suet mix, but also will imbibe on my sunflower seeds, both in the shell but preferably the plain hearts. If the suet log is empty (which is probably 90% of the time) they will sit up on their branch in the birch tree and scream that fact out. I have found that quite a few of the suet eating birds will do the same and create some type of method to let us know they want to be fed. Dumb birds, yeh????
All these pics were taken while the birds were dining on my suet log hanging in my backyard, one of their most favourite places. ;-)))

Very nice series. I envy you. I live in an apartment and we are not allowed to put bird feeders on our balconies. I do miss not seeing birds outside. Occasionally one will land on my railing, but that is unusual.

Nice group of pics of the White-breasted Nuthatch. These flit around quickly so you did a good job of getting crisp shots of them.

Very nice pics, Ron! One of my favorite feeder birds too. As your photos show, they are upside down more than upright! FYI, if you didn't know, these little guys (along with chickadees and blue jays) love shelled peanuts. I buy them at Menards in the bird food section in 6 or 8 lb. bags.

Thanks Tikva for your kind comment. I feel for you that no feeders are permitted at your place. Right now we are still in our own abode but in the future we may end up in the same situation as you are. Hopefully we can remain the rest of our lives here, but who really knows!?!?

Thanks for looking in and commenting. I agree these guys never seem to be still, but a bit of patience and a pile of suet sometimes does the trick.

At times I miss a house, especially the storage space, but for the most part I am happy to be in my apartment with my cat. I can’t do a lot of things anymore and this works.

Thanks diclam for your comment, tis appreciated. As for the peanuts, trust me this is something l know quite well. So far this fall I've went through 3 bags (6kg=14lbs) of unsalted whole peanuts along with 2 bags (5kg = 11lbs) of shelled ones. And to think, winter hasn't even started yet. Sometimes I think my grocery list for my feathered friends is much higher than the one for me and the missus.
