Never enough of these beautiful birds. I believe kissing equals mating in the birds' world.
Congrats Frank!

Gorgeous drawing! The optical illusion is there, quite pronounced at the left side of the house but not at right. In my humble opinion, the main reason for the illusion is the tree at left.

My old Minolta IV F light meter came with an opaque semi-spherical attachment for measuring the light of distant landscapes more precisely. I hope this helps.

Your Tamron zoom shouldn't be as heavy as the old Nikon 180-600 from 1975. It was as heavy as a 7.5LB newborn baby only not as cute and it was difficult to stabilize even on a tripod.

Thanks Capn Dave! I will follow those guidelines. I just bought a monopod. I am wondering if I should use that right away for some bird photography, or is it necessary?

Dave just gave you a pep-talk on camera shake. You urgently need two accessories : a sturdy TRIPOD and a shutter release (your camera deserves an MC-36) so that you don't touch the camera at all.

I agree wholeheartedly about the unnatural manipulation of light, it's too much. I learned something new from you: I have never heard of Kilfitt before!

I found this: http://camera-wiki.org/wiki/Tokina#Tokyo_Koki_.2F_Tele-Tokina_Lenses

(Oops, sorry, you asked for an expert, didn't you?! )

Thanks very much, you are an EXPERT! It is quite clear that only two long lenses, the 600 and 800mm, were made in the early 1970's and traded as Tele-Tokina, which is exactly what mine says. I am happy to have it for $300!!

The 35~70 f/3.5, 80~200 f/4.5 and 75~200 f/4.5 Vario-Elmar-Rs were Minolta designs and manufactured for Leica in Osaka with Minolta glass. Of the Leica branded prime lenses, I am only aware of the original Fisheye-Elmarit-R 16mm f/2.8 and 800mm f/8.0 as being of Minolta manufacture. The 24mm f/2.8 Elmarit-R was designed by Minolta and they supplied the elements - it was manufactured at the Leica plant in Solms.

I wonder if you experts could give me some information on a Tokina 800mm, f/8.0. It is 29" long and its serial #is 81000863. I am able to attach it to the D800E (I attach image of foliage). It looks like a lens from the 1970's and has a closest distance of 60". I purchased it a few years back from a reputable camera store for $300 but it doesn't appear to be junk, its pictures are quite sharp.

The June issue of Popular Photography includes a review of the new Sigma 24mm F/1.4 Art lens. In their Subjective Quality Factor test, this lens produced incredible results in sharpness, scoring a perfect A+ at aperture 2.0 in all five print sizes (their highest is 20X24"). They have never seen anything like this. I wonder if a new era of lens construction has arrived as a result of the digital advances and the competition among so many great lens manufacturers.

Excellent question, I would be curious to know what the experts think. Obviously, digital has brought many of those controls by filters right in our fingertips during shooting, like White Balance, Quality, ISO, and artificial light. On top of this, there was no Photoshop for film.

I have that lens. I like it a lot. It's very sharp and has very high contrast. It's evident just how much sharper it is than zoom lenses. I use it on my D90 and D7000. Another nice thing about it is that you can use it for general photography as well as for macro. It's an equivalent 60mm on a 1.5x cropped sensor camera. That's great for general photography and the f/2.8 aperture lets you throw backgrounds out of focus. I took this photo with it. I had to lower the resolution a lot to send it over this dial-up connection.

Challenging but great shot and excellent advice!

Hi everyone
Was just looking for this camera , and found this . seems to good .
To buy or not to buy .
what do you make of the warranty statement at the bottom .
link below .

A British £ is not the same as the US $. Check the current values but I think right now 700£=$1100, so it's not "cheep" but just about the same price as here only not with USA warranty.

I am thinking of creating a Nikon museum and charging a fee to see it!
