New heights in lens sharpness

The June issue of Popular Photography includes a review of the new Sigma 24mm F/1.4 Art lens. In their Subjective Quality Factor test, this lens produced incredible results in sharpness, scoring a perfect A+ at aperture 2.0 in all five print sizes (their highest is 20X24"). They have never seen anything like this. I wonder if a new era of lens construction has arrived as a result of the digital advances and the competition among so many great lens manufacturers.

They have been available for some time i'm sure,
The companies just need to milk the old designs as long as possible for profits.
Not everyone is so impressed with the advances.

Now if Sigma could improve their low light auto focus it might be worth buying.

IF you believe DXO mark results, it would appear the sensor used in the referenced tests was maxxed out - because the POP Photo results clearly showed the Sigma to be superior .........Of course, you need something besides a Canon sensor to realize it !

are you suggesting canon may bump their basic 20mp sensor up a bit to use the new crop of lenses?
