Thanks, I see the point on the horizon, will have to pay more attention to that alignment in the future.
Inside the cave, I was presented with limited space, and wondered if I should have held the camera vertical. Going to keep that in mind as well.

Wrto making the horizon horizontal, I frequently need to do that after I take the picture. Fortunately, there are many photo post-processing programs that you can use to rotate the image by any angle, including just a few degrees to line things up horizontally. It is quite possible that your camera might even have software built in to do that. Or, your camera manufacturer might have included a post-processing program with your camera.

If not, Google Photos has that ability. Just go to photos.google.com. You may have to create an account (it's free up to a certain amount of storage space). You can then drag and drop your photo into an album, double click it, and then edit it. Somewhere in the edit page there is an icon that suggests rotation. After you've rotated to change the alignment, save your edits and then just download your photo to get it back on your PC. Alternatively, you can use something like Lightroom or Photoshop (or equivalents). Those two are not free, but others might be.

Wrto getting scale in the photo, when taking the picture try to find something recognizable to include, like a person or object. I know that's not always possible, and furthermore, doing so might ruin the effect you are otherwise trying to capture. So, there are tradeoffs.

The fourth photo needs something in it to give it scale. As it is I have no idea how large the ice formation is.

I like the last photo with the blurry foreground and the focus on the plow. I'm not sure if cropping off some of that foreground from the right would improve it, but it might. So experiment with that.

I also suggest you level the horizon in the second shot.

Overall a nice set. Keep with it!

But based on the above, my next step is to get a 32GB Extreme SanDisk and see if that works. They are quite cheap on Amazon.

Following up, the 32GB Extreme SanDisk arrived today (boy Amazon is quick!) and it works also. So the "Extreme" speed is not the issue, but the size is. Maybe I'll try a 64GB card, or maybe just go with what I now have.

I can highly recommend the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ300. I have used it (or its predecessor FZ250) successfully on trips to Kenya, the Antarctic, the Galapagos, Peru, Chili, Egypt, India with absolutely great photos of wildlife, scenery and urban environments. Before purchasing it two years ago I compared it directly to the Sony RX10 IV for about a week. No doubt that the RX10 IV is a better camera. However here are the factors that made me decide on the FZ300:
1. It has a slightly more powerful zoom: 25-600 mm equivalent.
2. It is less bulky and has about 2/3 of the weight of the Sony.
3. The Leica lens on the Panasonic has the same maximum F2.8 aperture all the way to 600 mm equiv zoom. This is a very useful feature for using the zoom to photograph wildlife because with the larger aperture, there is more light and less need to slow down your shutter.

The final difference is that the Panasonic (at $398 on B&H) is around 1/4 the cost of the Sony ($1700 on B&H).

The biggest advantage of the Sony is of course the larger sensor but when I compared them head to head the supposedly better image was very subtle and could not justify the increased weight and cost.

Fabulous set. I like the brown pelican wings down especially. It shows the power these birds have to lift their heavy bodies.

Yes. Give up on that idea! Panasonic is notorious for adding components to the standard SD card formats that their cameras need to operate.

Thank you for your help.

Per CHG_CANON's suggestion, I tried a smaller SD card, and that was visible on both the phone and the camera. But it is also a slower card (Ultra vs Extreme), so as I said in my response to him, I don't know it it's size or speed, but I ordered another SD card from Amazon to see if I can get a both a larger size and faster speed than the 16 GB Ultra card.

Is it possible the issue is the 'size' of the card? Do you have any SD cards of a more modest size, say 32GB or smaller, that you can test the same process?

Is a wifi connection possible from the camera to phone? That's how I've connected my pocket-sized Canon G9X to my android phone in the past, with software from Canon. It would seem Panasonic would provide same now in 2022.

Both good suggestions. Thank you!

I tested with a 16 GB Ultra card and had no problems with that, so that was an excellent hypothesis on your part. Of course I don't know if its the smaller size or Extreme vs Ultra. There are several useful better features (capacity and speed) with the larger Extreme card as I like to shoot both video and still images.

The camera does have both WiFi and BlueTooth connectivity. And I can use either through the Panasonic Image app. I experimented with the app when I got the camera several years ago and was very unhappy with the speed. I have just tried it again using WiFi and speed is still a problem. Also, at least so far in my current tests, the Image app only uploads jpg files and not raw files. But probably worth a little more trial and error with the app.

But based on the above, my next step is to get a 32GB Extreme SanDisk and see if that works. They are quite cheap on Amazon.

Planning ahead for an upcoming trip, I would like to use my Android phone (Google Pixel 2) to backup my photos to the cloud.

I was hoping to use my phone to read the SD card from my camera from where cloud backup would be easy.

But, when I put the SD card (SanDisk ExtremePro 128GB) into the phone, it says that the card is corrupted and needs to be reformatted.

When I do that and then put the SD card into the camera, the camera says the card is corrupted and needs to be formatted.

I've tried formatting on my Windows PC and that makes the phone happy, but the camera now says that the card was formatted elsewhere and needs to be reformatted.

Regardless of whether the card was formatted by the phone or the camera, I can read it fine on my PC, although the PC sometimes complains that there are issues with the card but that does not prevent my reading it.

I believe, but not with 100% certainty, that both the camera and the phone are using exFAT formatting.

Anybody have any ideas on what I can do here?

I too am visiting in South FL and was just in Shark Valley. Great opportunities to photograph a large variety of birds and alligators. Plus a nice place for a bike ride. Bring your own or rent one right there.

Fabulous shot! Was this in Colorado? Where? (I spend several months a year up near Allenspark and have seen them on CO 7 between Lyons and Allenspark.) I counted 6 for sure, maybe a seventh? How many did I miss?

I think Rob is spot on with his observation! Looking more closely at this photo, it appears that there is the stern of another Zodiac peaking out behind the main subject and toward the front of the Zodiac it looks like people are slightly lower than those in the subject craft.

Maybe I was, maybe not. As someone else pointed out, there is only one wake, but the second Zodiac could be stationary. And the OP stated there was only one Zodiac. I did some Googling and found "The largest boat is the Zodiac Mil-Pro Heavy Duty Series. This boat is 23’ long and made of Hypalon, it has a 20 person capacity and costs over $34,000." If that is what is in the photo, it could actually hold two more persons! However, the lack of life vests is disturbing.

Having been on a number of Zodiacs, they aren't as wide as this one looks. I think there may be two Zodiacs more or less side by side here?

CBD is a marijuana extract that doesn't get you high. THC is the component that does. CBD may or may not provide some relaxation.

Isn’t it illegal to be so close to them? Good shot.

I suspect quite a bit of telephoto foreshortening here. Additionally, if it is illegal, I doubt the whale takes that into account when breaching!
