Thanks for your thoughts bspargue and therwol,

From what I have read, the D850 is the end of the line for DSLRs for landscape and portrait photographers and likely the same is true for the D6 aimed more towards sports and journalist photographers. Mirrorless is the future they feel I bet, although I love my DSLRs and have no interest in moving to mirrorless cameras.

You may be correct that sales of compact cameras is inadequate to justify a RX100 VIII, but frankly there isn't a lot more to do to make a M8 other than an improved zoom lens, hot shoe (which I would NOT like to see), faster processor, and ...

Yes, current smartphone cameras are quite impressive, but even with all of the computational optical processing, the final images will not be as good as the image produced by a D850 for example. There are many technical reasons why this is true; however, the imagery produced by smartphone cameras is far more than adequate for likely 99%+ of those people taking photos. :-)

It was "rumored" that the new Sony RX100 VIII was going to be released in fall of 2000, then spring 2021, and then fall 2021. I'm wondering if instead that the RX100 VII (M7) is the end of the line for this wonderful camera.

When I can't take, or want to take, my D810 or D850, the RX100 VII provides very quality images, although not as good as my Nikon cameras as should be expected.

Perhaps Sony just couldn't figure out what new capabilities and features to add to an already wonderful pocket camera.

Anyone have thoughts about this?

A fellow truck driver friend of was hit by a train years ago. The rail crossing had no gates. Only flashing lights. It was also on a blind curve. That time of day, the sun hit the flashing lights at an angle that rendered the light unseeable ( I don't think that's a word. ??). He assumed it was clear instead of looking. At the time it was a conrail train. They were blue. I ask him how it felt when he suddenly saw the train before it hit him. All he said was, and I quote " It was the biggest, blue-est son of a bitch I've ever seen in my life.". Please excuse the french. It's what he said.

No need to excuse the French kerry12, seems the President now speaks French like that to reporters.

Focus seems off in all of these. Look at eyes. #1 hands give an impression likely not intended. #2. My favorite. Lighting is interesting and good. #5 Is a nice natural pose. Others fair. Nevertheless, she is your granddaughter and every photograph is precious to you and family!

I have a D 5300 with a Tamron 18-400mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD. I'm considering the "Tap-in" console to tweak the focus points. I would like to hear from folks experienced with the Nikon/Tamron set-up for feedback on results with the "Tap-in". I have latest firmware updates on body. Thank for your input.

You can send your camera and lens to Tamron Service Center and the will tune your lens to your camera. Free and they pay return shipping by FedEx. You pay to get the package to them. I check my 160-690 G2 lens with my D810 out of the box. Then used the TapIn to tweak the combination. Got technical improvement. Then I sent the package to Tamron and their result was superior to my effort. You can do this during the warranty period. BTW, their return packing was better than I have seen from anyone. Suggest you consider this.

Hi Jerry,

You reminded me that the Yellow Pine Manufacturers Assoc. in 1906 established that a rough pine 2x4 was to be cut to 2" by 4" and the finish board was to be 1-5/8" by 3-5/8". Around 1971 or 1972, a change in the standard occurred to remove 1/8" from both dimensions. So the old 2x4 became 1.5" by 3.5".

Why on earth do I recall this trivia? It was at that time I was having a new house built (my first one) and the builder was doing everything fine ... until he ran out of 2x4s for the framing. He went to another lumber yard and found some more. When I finished work that day and went by the construction site for my daily inspection, I noticed that the many of the studs were too small with respect to the top and base plates. The builder told me about the change in lumber source. I said fine, but remove all framing having different size lumber and rebuild. He refused. The next morning I took my trusty 10 lb sledge hammer and knocked out the offending studs. When he saw what I had done he was rather angry, but after understanding I would continue to remove offending boards, we came to an understanding. Remarkably he found a yard in a nearby town that had the "old size" lumber. So why did I care that they were different? Simple because the sheetrock would bow and have a poor look. All ended well.

Once again, thank you all for your responses. I very much appreciate your time an expertise. I am not tech savvy at all but I have printed out your suggestions and will get the information you said that I need. I wondered whether or not the traffics cars was the problem but the computer tech that did the upgrade to the laptop told me it was only working to 10% capacity and should be fine. More work to do I guess. Thanks again to all.
Doug

Hi Doug,
I’m not sure if the tech meant your computer is working at 10% of its processing capability or memory or what. If the former, you may well have other issues not allowing you to utilize the other 90% of the processing power. Also be sure your GPU is being used, and is adequate for the job. As these programs “improve “ they frequently seem to need more capable hardware. Good luck!

First, I’d like to thank all the folks who responded to my post a few months back about purchasing a factory refurbished lens. You were very helpful and I did purchase a factory refurbished Tokina lens which I love. So, thanks to all. My issue now is with ON1 Photo Raw 2021. I used the 2020 version for a year and outside of how slow it was it worked OK. The 2021 version has given me a number of problems. It is even slower for starters but the real issues are that the zoom, crop and advanced (the little blue slider) don’t work. More specifically, at times the zoom tool doesn’t work, so that when I zoom in on a photo everything is blurry. At times the photos are blurry even without using the zoom tool. At other times when I try to crop a photo the photo has already been cropped (pretty weird, I know). Other times when I crop a photo and press “apply” the crop doesn’t hold and the photo reverts back to the original. I also can’t advance the photos by sliding the blue small rectangle at the bottom of the screen. There may be other issues/problems that I haven’t discovered yet. I have contacted ON1 tech support and that was not very helpful. One of the things I did was bring in my laptop for an upgrade thinking this would solve the problem. The tech installed a 2 GB SSD, 16 RAM, cleaned everything out, backed up all my files and the problem remains. I’m open to thoughts, ideas, and suggestions. I switched to ON1 because I didn’t want to pay the Lightroom monthly fee for RAW photo editing capability, but now I’m wondering if I should, and if I could access the currently installed ON1 photos through Lightroom. Thank you in advance for your input. Much appreciated.
Doug

Hi Doug,
Sounds like your graphics card isn’t adequate. I had to replace mine about two years ago. My ON1 RAw 2021 works fine and is adequately quick.

I did a crop so that the image multiplayer is 600% then merged all three onto one canvas. The focus was the leaf with pollen. Full size images were 1357x1036 cropped was 211x131.

The difference between the no processing and the Topaz and On-1 was remarkable, but the difference between the de-noise Topaz and de-noise On-1 was not seen. Topaz and On-1 De-Noise programs were equivalent.

Hi dpullum,

Thank you for your analysis and combining the three super-cropped images into a single image. I note that you sent this combined image to me via PM and gave permission for me to share with others on UHH.
