I'm back. Our life was on hold because my
wife had a recent major operation. She is doing well.
Camera question: B&H shows a drop of
approx. $1,200 from the price of a
Nikon D750. That is a hefty reduction.
Do you think they are planning on discontinuing that model or replacing it with an improved model?
Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Proof that having a degree does not
guarentee inteligence. Does she stay up most of the night thinking up stupid things
like that?

Excellent shot. You have a good eye. How many people walked by that day and didn't
see the chance?

I'm happy that I found this group. It has an amazing knowledge base. I hope that some day I will be able to help someone here.

Interesting because I hadn't considered
a used camera.
Thanks.

Medium format will most likely, at least
initially, be out of my price range.
I'm not ruling it out though.

I don't want to mislead anyone. My 5100
is fine for the kids sports program.
I am allowed to stand in the middle of the games (Baseball and Soccer) and I've
given the parents shots they've never had before. It's not a conventional game. In baseball, we could have 20 or more in the outfield. 'Everyone plays, Everyone wins'
is their motto. The program is called
'Challenger Sports' in Upper Township NJ.
One of the coaches pinned the name
'Photo Joe' on me. Before the games I do 'Trader Card' type shots. These parents have had enough expenses already.
I just want to give back. This higher quality
camera I'm looking for will not be used in the games. Totally different project.
Thanks Everyone!

I am not being intentionally vague for any of those reasons. I hope to be starting a new photo business (New to me) and have many options.
My professional background was 'old school' and did not involve any digital work.
My entry into digital started with a point and shoot. Approx. 8 years (Don't hold me to that time frame) ago I got a Nikon
5100. I've used it mainly for photographing
a children's sports program similar to
Special Olympics. I'm giving back to my community and do not charge for this.
The parents download and print at no charge. It's the most rewarding thing I've done in photography. By asking my questions here and receiving answers from
experienced users, I have saved years of trial and error. I'm 73 I don't have unlimited years. So, please don't read anything into my original question.
Thanks, ...Joe in NJ

In reading everyone's interesting and informative replies, I feel like I'm back in the my 'Self Taught' photography school.
This is soooo different from what I had to
learn starting back in the 50's.
(1950's not the 1850's!) I appreciate your comments and difference of opinions.

I'm impressed with everyone's knowledge plus the willingness to educate a relic (Me!)
from the 4x5 days.

I found the right place to ask my question!

I took thousands of 4x5 shots while in a
government photo lab. Yes, the sharpness would be great. On this project, a full frame dslr should be fine. This is not a scientific project but I want to produce
better than average shots.

At some time in the future I'll explain this
project to everyone.

Thanks for your help.
My budget would be cover almost any of the full frame pro cameras. I'm partial to Nikon but not locked in to them.
For this project, every shot would be a
landscape. I know that a fixed focal length lens in most cases will give better results but in my case a good zoom would be fine.
I guess I'm asking if there would be much difference between brands, staying in the same price range.
I know a lot more about view cameras than I do about dslr's.
Many thanks! ...Joe in NJ
