An elementary school principal in Nebraska was placed on leave after telling teachers to avoid decorating their classrooms with Christmas-themed ornaments so as not to offend those who don’t celebrate the holiday.

The principal at Manchester Elementary School, identified by Fox affiliate KPTM as Jennifer Sinclair, sent out a memo earlier this week with guidelines as to what is considered appropriate for classroom decorations and assignments.

Teachers reportedly were told that generic winter-themed items, such as sledding and scarves, and the “Frozen” character Olaf, were acceptable.

Decorations that included Santa, Christmas trees, reindeer, green and red items and even candy canes, however, were not acceptable for the elementary school.

The candy canes, according to KETV, were prohibited because Sinclair deemed them to have religious significance. “Historically, the shape is a ‘J’ for Jesus. The red is for the blood of Christ, and the white is a symbol of his resurrection,” she reportedly wrote. “This would also include different colored candy canes.”

“I feel uncomfortable that I have to get this specific, but for everyone’s comfort, I will,” Sinclair reportedly wrote in the memo.

The Elkhorn School District told Fox News in a statement that “the memo does not reflect the policy of Elkhorn Public Schools regarding holiday symbols in the school.”

The district’s policy states that “Christmas trees, Santa Claus and Easter eggs and bunnies are considered to be secular, seasonal symbols and may be displayed as teaching aids provided they do not disrupt the instructional program for students.”

Sinclair was placed on administrative leave as of Thursday morning.

When is this going to end?

Some schools put up things for every religion/belief and invite students/parents who feel left out to let them know. There are other nations where most of the people are not Christian who have adopted Christmas and Santa etc as a "Children's Holiday".
A judge I know was part of a group of US legal experts who toured China, in December and at one elementary school the students were proud to show off their Christmas display, the school did displays for most other religions also. Part of a course on religions of the world.

Great ideas, a shame our schools are so myopic.

Candy canes are the same as barbershop poles signifying that barbers were also once surgeons doing blood letting with leaches! Got F all to do with Christianity.

This is a person let loose on children!!!!

Time we stopped treating children as 'political' pawns by 'so called Adults'.

It won't.

The fact is that there has been a war on Christianity for a while now. The religion of "no-God" is a rabid one, not content to just let everyone worship the way they please, they won't stop until everyone bows down to the god of their religion (secular humanism)

Candy canes used to all be straight.
The J shape does have significance but they are not meant to a "J", they are meant to be a shepherd's crook in honor of the shepherds who went to see and watch over the Baby Jesus. They were white sugar candy, the red stripes and flavoring came about in the early 20th century.

If one can’t stand the tradition and celebration of a country, than why the fuck they migrate there in the first place

It’s not the immigrants that are causing the problem. It’s those i***tiotic nationals claiming political correctness, etc. that in my experience immigrants don’t give a s**t about.

Can you imagine a Muslim country stopping their religious festivals being altered the same way in their schools.

Quite rightly so and why should they?
I used to work with a Hindu guy who said that he supported anyone’s religious festival as it often meant time off work and lots of good food.

Children should be taught that there are different religions and they all have beliefs and traditions. While each religion may be different, there are no “good” or “bad” religions. So, at this time of the year, they should be given a chance to see a menorah and learn its significance, a Christmas display and those beliefs, and learn about Kwanza. A lesson on Islam and Hinduism during their major holidays would be appropriate. Under our current bulls**t system, children are ignorant of religions other than their own, and that ignorance often leads to fear and hatred.
