Nice shot of Horseshoe Bend. I might recommend to others wanting a shot like that to look at Goose Neck State Park, near Mexican Hat, UT. The San Miguel river has three bends where Horseshoe has the single.

Trip is not that far from Page, AZ, and is on the other side of Monument Valley.

Just a hint from a Utahan (been to Horseshoe twice and plan to go back with LF)

Nice shots, but the ducks fade in to the water in both shots. As a non digital software (other than phone) and someone who still wet prints, I would sudgest on the monochrome shot to pull up your contrast a tad, as it may help with the ducks. But again, not much you can do with the way the ducks blend in due to lighting.

I recently became the current caretaker of a 5x7 built between 1897 and 1903. Put a new lens on it and been having a ball. All you need is good glass and a better eye.

B/W is a way of seeing what is there in a different way. Having shot and printed both, u can say that there are times when color is better, but it’s up to your interpretation.

My wife does not understand why I still shoot film, let alone b/w film. Though she has allowed me space for a laundry/dark room and even space for my 4x5 enlarger.

Guess I fit too. Have had digital point and shoots as well as phones. Currently shooting Cannon ELAN 7, Bronica ETRS/SQ B, Sinar F, and a Rochester Optical 5x7 with plans to bring back a Rochester Optical 8x10 (both Rochester’s are over 100 years old)

As a film shooter, and mainly b/w landscapes, you did the hard part.... capturing the shot in hood light. Adjustments are subject to taste, as there is no one set standard. Adjust to what you like and later you can play with it some more.

Great shot.

The way Ansel shot can be done at great expense, as he used LF with its movements, which any Canon or Nikon can not get. Yes, you can get a digital back for a 4x5, though I hate to think of the cost.

As a Navy trained photographer, I find the processing film therapy, and pure joy. The camera shown is over 115 years old. The ability it use a 5x7 requires you to slow down.

The idea of being able to produce an image without seeing it in the field means you have to know how to achieve the goal you want.

Personally, I don’t see how an ink print can compare to a silver gelatin print. One has to be produced with attention to the demands of the size, and the other can be scaled up or down with a few mouse clicks.

Not having the time to schedule a tour out of Page, I did book a tour to Peek-a-Boo canyon outside Kanab. Got there early enough that I was able to shoot with both my 6x12 pinhole and my Bronica. Granted, not as pretty as Antalope, but not as dusty or crowded.

Plan to return and hike in with a 5x7 next time.
