.... Would eventually like to slim down to the Lumix / OM 4/3 system to shed weight ( would consider keeping the D810 ). Has anyone out there shed their FF / APS-C systems to go to 4/3 ?

Yes . I still have my Nikon D 50 and associated lens, but a year and a half ago I bought an Olympus OM D-E M1 Mark II, an Olympus Pro 12-100 and a Panasonic/Leica 100-400 lens. The further out I get form the purchase date the less I use the Nikon to the point it hasn't been off the shelf in 8 months. Like you I never print larger than 16x20, and that rarely. I crop the raw images routinely and at that size and small print there is no IQ issue. I will likely add a fast wider angle lens sometime next year for lower light situations, but you won't look back.

We did the Princess land/cruise to Denali and the inside Passage at this time last year. I had an Olympus OM D-E MI Mark II and the Olympus Pro 12-100mm, and Pan/Lieca !00 - 400mm. On the land portion you cannot have enough reach. In Denali we watched a mother bear protecting her cubs from a large male, but we were over 400 yards away. Just to far even with the crop sensor.Reach is good on the land portion. As to the cruise and glaciers our ship got with a quarter of a mile, stopped side ways and sat there for an hour. Took my shots from the balcony of our room and they were great. Used both lens. In Skagway and Juneau we did independent excursions and were glad we did. Laughton Glacier hike in Skagway, whale watching in Juneau. Private message me if you want the company info. Also did Brooks Falls out of Anchorage which was the high light of the entire trip for me. Have a great time.

For what its worth, there are many pickpockets in Italy. I make a copy of my passport and carry that when I am touring, and I lock my original in the hotel room safe. I have been to Italy twice, and have not been bothered, but I am careful, aware of my surroundings, and I heed the advice of the tour leaders.

Almost got arrested within site of the Colosseum. Riding a bus with our guide from Vatican City. When we got on just about 10 people total. By the time we got off you couldn't cram 5 more on board. As we got off 2 guys who hadn't had a bath in days approached, flashed some kind of badge in a totally worn out wallet and started jabbering away in Italian of which I don't understand a word. Kept brushing them off as they became more aggressive. Fortunately our guide made her way to me through the crowd and sorted it all out. Turns out they were undercover police who thought they saw two Algerian known pickpockets take something from my wife's bag as we got off the bus. These guys were WAY undercover in appearance. Good thing the guide was there or I was on my way to the pokie.

It's not only the weight that is an issue. The size of a DSLR (Canon or Nikon) 100-400 lens compared to an equivalent mirrorless lens is significant in size and weight and cost. I had a Canon 5d MK III with a Canon 100-400 lens. When I went with my Olympus mirrorless system the equal lens was even less then half the size of the Canon, and yes a lot less in weight. It took two + camera bags for the camera and lenses I wanted on a shoot, now with my mirrorless system I've got everything in one bag. Telephoto, walk around, wide angle and macro all in one bag along with the camera, batteries, charger etc. Works for me.
It's not only the weight that is an issue. The si... (show quote)

Amen and Amen. I made the same move from Nikon. Still have my Nikon, but hardly ever use it anymore.

My current HP Pavilion is over 6 years old and it's time for a new laptop. After reading several post here, and doing a little research I am looking at a Dell Inspion 17 inch, 8th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-8550U mobile processor, 16 GB RAM, 2TB hard drive, 256GB solid state drive (SSD), 4GB dedicated AMD Radeon 530 graphics. The other possibility is a HP 17inch, touchscreen,
8th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-8550U mobile processor, 16GB RAM, 1TB hard drive, NVIDIA GeForce MX150 graphics. The price differential is insignificant. I am an armature with a Olympus OM D E M1 Markii, use Photshop Elements and Olympus Viewer 3 for post processing, but Topaz and Luminar look interesting. This laptop will be used as our home computer on which we will run Office and our e-mail through a local third party provider. Looking for advice on which will be most reliable, fastest for processing, and anything else in this category/ price range,
and experience of anyone who has hands on with any of these. Please don't try to convince me to look at Macs: it ain't gona happen. Thanks in advance.

I use a think tank Urban Approach 15. Carry an Olympus OM D-E M1 MarkII, Oly pro 12-100, and a Panlica 100 -400 plus extra battery ,charger, assorted cables etc. Still has room for rain jacket, sandwich, chip/vegies, a 15 " laptop and some paperwork. Carry a monopod on the side. It has been to Switzerland, Italy, Ireland, Alaska and multiple state side trips. Holds up very well and never a problem with security or the airlines and fits both overhead and under the seat in front.
