I am looking for a camera bag that complies with airline carry-on regulations. I would prefer a backpack style. The one I looked at was from Evecase (Evecase Extra Large DSLR Camera / 15.6 inch Laptop Travel Daypack Backpack), but would like any recommendations from the forum.

Thanks

I currently use a Lowepro Tahoe BP 150 camera backpack. It has room for a tablet and several lenses and bodies, etc. Good padding and comfortable straps. Sells for around $70.00. Check it out on Amazon

My everyday bag (and I fly a lot for work) is a Think Tank urban disguise v50. I’ve owned it since 2012 and I’ve beat it to hell and it still keeps on chugging along. Often times my wife uses it when she flies for work as well. Their product are generally a bit more, but the quality/workmanship is top notch (and worth it IMHO) they also make backpacks. If my bag ever wears out, I’ll replace it with another think tank (or a mind shift, which I also own and is pretty good as well).

Don't know how much equipment you will be carrying so it's kinda hard to determine what size, other than the laptop requirement, but I'm leaning toward this one. It's full featured and looks pretty good. Also I've been very happy with Vanguard stuff.

I use a Think Tank Airport Computer. Plenty of room for camera and accessories plus 15.6" laptop and 10" tablet. Fits in overhead bin. Have carried it on a number trans pacific flights and it's holding up well.

I have a Ruggard Backpack that came from B&H (along with my Nikon D7100 and a bunch of "kit" stuff to sweeten B&H's "Nikon" package price. I love the backpack and it is EXACTLY the airline standard for carryon luggage. It has tons of zip up or Velcro pockets on the outside and lots of zip up areas for cards, cables etc. All of the "main" area has Velcro dividers to make compartments for lenses etc. The bag has heavily padded straps for backpacking and a belt/quick release strap around your front to help hold it in. It also has a rain resistant cover stowed in the top (right where the top of the back straps connect to the bag) that can easily be pulled down over the bag to protect from rain/snow and moisture. The bag is (supposedly) the largest size that TSA and the Airlines will approve to go under the seat... or you could store it overhead. I fly Frontier and other budget airlines a lot and it has ALWAYS been approved to go under their seats.

I use a think tank Urban Approach 15. Carry an Olympus OM D-E M1 MarkII, Oly pro 12-100, and a Panlica 100 -400 plus extra battery ,charger, assorted cables etc. Still has room for rain jacket, sandwich, chip/vegies, a 15 " laptop and some paperwork. Carry a monopod on the side. It has been to Switzerland, Italy, Ireland, Alaska and multiple state side trips. Holds up very well and never a problem with security or the airlines and fits both overhead and under the seat in front.

I had an incident three weeks ago that should make you really consider size and weight specifications for whatever you buy. On an Air New Zealand flight from LAX (Los Angeles) to Heathrow (London), the ticket agent at LAX insisted on weighing both my personal item and my carryon luggage for the overhead. My Tenba role-aboard conformed to all the airline's size requirements, but at 34 lbs. could not possibly conform to the airline's 7Kg (15.4 lbs.) weight limitation for cabin luggage in economy class. When I told her that the case contained high value cameras and lenses and could not go in the cargo hold, she had me open it, redistribute a token amount of filters and accessories to my checked luggage and called a supervisor who reluctantly approved taking it on the plane. I had no similar problem when I returned from Heathrow.

The lesson is that regardless of what type of carryon you buy, make sure that what you take will comply with all regulations. The requirements on international flights can be different for each country, airline and plane type. A lot has to do with the seating configuration that the airline orders for their aircraft. If you are traveling in Africa on a photo safari where you will probably fly in smaller commercial planes or in regional US carriers, the size and weight restrictions may be ridiculously low. So do your research before you buy and for certain destinations, consider shipping your equipment ahead and allowing time to post it for return if you cannot pack light.

Visit your local camera store if you have one, or check on- line photo dealers such as B and H. You will get many responses here-as many as there are camera backpacks available. Personally, I use Lowepro. Fits perfectly under the cabin seat and allows me to travel reasonably light, without too much equipment when on vacation. A personal trip to the camera shop would be helpful.

I have a ThinkTank and love it. 2 dslrs, 70-200 zoom, several small lens, bridge camera, lap top, lots of batteries, filters, kindle, ect. comfortable padded back pack but very heavy with all my gear. Never had a problem and I fly a lot. on some small planes it does not fit in overhead but will fit under seat.
