My current HP Pavilion is over 6 years old and it's time for a new laptop. After reading several post here, and doing a little research I am looking at a Dell Inspion 17 inch, 8th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-8550U mobile processor, 16 GB RAM, 2TB hard drive, 256GB solid state drive (SSD), 4GB dedicated AMD Radeon 530 graphics. The other possibility is a HP 17inch, touchscreen,
8th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-8550U mobile processor, 16GB RAM, 1TB hard drive, NVIDIA GeForce MX150 graphics. The price differential is insignificant. I am an armature with a Olympus OM D E M1 Markii, use Photshop Elements and Olympus Viewer 3 for post processing, but Topaz and Luminar look interesting. This laptop will be used as our home computer on which we will run Office and our e-mail through a local third party provider. Looking for advice on which will be most reliable, fastest for processing, and anything else in this category/ price range,
and experience of anyone who has hands on with any of these. Please don't try to convince me to look at Macs: it ain't gona happen. Thanks in advance.

Looks like you made your mind up what you want to buy. I am a convert from Windows to Apple. I use Lightroom and Photoshop stand alone disks, not CC.
The Dell seems like a good choice.

I'm looking for a 14" Dell Inspiron with 8GB minimum. Can't seem to find it on this website. Right in my price range though, I think...
This is more work than I anticipated!

I bought the Dell XPS15 with 4K display and love it. I upgraded it myself to 3TB internal storage. Works flawlessly
Try to find one with an M.2 solid state drive... they are significantly faster than the conventional SSD.

What I ended up purchasing is a HP envy 15 (i7-8550 quad proc) two in one. The reason this was my choice is because it’s got 2 drive bays. I put an SSD in the boot drive (fast) and a 2 TB drive in the second, for storage. SSDs are great for boot speed but their size is limited.
Between Dell and HP, I prefer Dell, for both reliability and stability. I've had excellent luck with Dell's refurbished systems. If you use one of the many independent refurbishing companies, you can usually specify what hard drive you want, how much memory, sometimes even graphics card options, etc. Just check reviews on the company before buying from them.
Same advice for AndyH, who posted a similar question in a different thread.

Thanks. I’m looking at all my options.

Agreed. I prefer Dell over HP also, and that comes from somebody (me) who used to work for HP.
