For me, the best all-around lens is the 18-140 mm. It couldn't be any sharper and it does a beautiful job with landscapes. The 140 end might be just fine for sports.

I use the little Texas peanuts with skins for peanut brittle. The large skinless one are usually canned or Jared. I haven't bought any in cans in years.

Great shot. About how long was the exposure and what was the ISO, if you don't mind?

The exposure was 143 seconds, ISO 100, f/8. I used a variable neutral density filter with a medium setting but I don't know what. That's what happens when I buy a cheap filter. The street lights were unusually dim so I think I got about the right exposure. It was an extremely bright rocket.
Thanks for asking!

They finally launched Airtimes 1 this morning at close to 2:00 AM. I shot it like I do most night launches but it is seriously over exposed. I have toned it down some. Maybe there is haze or maybe fog on my lens. It was the brightest plume I have ever seen. Quite a sight.

I would say a minimum budget would be a camera with a wide angle lens and a tripod. A speedlight and a remote control would also be useful additions.

Oh, My! Won't this ever stop? There is no right or wrong. I can't stand "shaving foam" water. Others love it. So, you just do whatever you like. Who are you trying to please?

We encountered this machine at a scenic overlook near Carson Pass on CA State highway 88.

That would be Mom's Café in Salina, UT. My wife and I stopped there several times on our way from California to Denver. Delightful.

The bulb exposure was 135 seconds, a little over two minutes. This is a typical time for a launch.

I finally found an old pic of an annular eclipse. We were on an Indian reservation northeast of Reno, NV. It cost us $5 to park in the desert and take a picture.

Next year will possibly be the best chance most Americans alive today will ever have of seeing a total eclipse of the sun. It will be visible through a huge swath of the Southwest - where the weather in October is often clear and "sunny". Large cities such as San Anotnio and Albuquerque will be plunged into darkness - for a few minutes anyway. The relative location of the moon is expected to create a "ring of fire" effect during this eclipse.

I am looking forward to it. The paths of some of the past few eclipses visible in the US have been in areas and seasons with high expectations of bad weather which have ended up dampening the event.

I photographed the 2017 eclipse in Cheyanne, WY but I got so involved in photography, I forgot to enjoy the experience! So, don't get carried away like I did. An annular eclipse should probably be shot with a
r filter. I made my own out of filter material and cardboard so I could photograph the partial eclipse and full sun, too. I like thios one because it shows Bailey's Beads. With an annular eclipse, I doubt they will be visible. Go and enjoy!

Funny. I thought UHH was a place to share. I often wonder what settings were used for a particular photo. I think it might be helpful to me in the future. Is it too awful to share our expertise or is this just a place just to brag about the results?
