Taken from the Upper West Side of Manhattan looking eastward. The El Dorado Towers (300 Central Park West) at the opposite end of my block, forms part of the city skyline from our livingroom window. Both images were taken with my Nikon D850 with the spectacular Nikkor AF-S 28-300mm 1:3.5-5.6G zoom lens, showing off its abilities at both ends of the zoom.

No doubt about it.
Cold, Cold Heart;
Your Cheatin' Heart
Hey, Good lookin' Watcha got cookin'? So many others.

I used to sing and play guitar in a senior residence. One of the residents knew just about every song I ever sang to them.

Soon as I read this, I thought of Jambalaya. Looked up the words on Google, just to get the spelling right. Great memories of a classic:

Jambalaya, and a crawfish pie and a file gumbo
'Cause tonight I'm gonna see my machez amio
Pick guitar, fill fruit jar and be gay-oh
Son of a gun, we'll have big fun on the bayou

The El Dorado at the opposite end of my block, New York's Central Park to the east, and all of the rest of the Upper East Side beyond. Camera: Nikon D850, Lens 18-200 zoom at its widest angle setting. Processed in Lightroom, Photoshop and then merged the four overlapping images that make up the final one.

Are you fixed on the $650 price? I'd asked if you could come down a bit. Thanks.

Hi, Tom,

I see you used this lens among others, on a DX camera (The D7100). Is this a DX or an FX lens?
If FX, I am interested. I'll pm you my email address. BTW, the illustrative shots are stunning!

Understood! I find shooting in live view has been helpful when I'm shooting plays in a quiet theater. The mirror is in the up position there, and there is no shutter sound at all. Have you tried that?

I assume you've adjusted your shutter to the Q (Quiet) setting. I also have the D850, and while it is noisy, the Q setting brings it down to a tolerable level. More than likely, the total lack of shutter noise is one of the many big pluses for the owners of the Z model cameras. If noise is such an issue for you, you might think about getting one of the Z's for when your out in the wild. One of the things I love about the D850 is its visual noise reduction at high ISOs.

when I was in school and on a field trip shooting landscapes. if u didnt use a tripod, you failed.
I find if I use a tripod, without a wired release, my results are not much better than handheld.

To avoid camera shake while on a tripod and without a wire release, try setting the timer for a 5 or 10-second delay after you press the shutter.

I was in a street market and wanted to try capture the colourful canvas roofs of some of the stalls. I didn't have a camera with me so whipped out my iPhone 10. I only took two shots and when I got home I downloaded them on to my PC. I was startled to see the second photo. How could this have happened??

I’m just guessing: Your memory chip may be filled to max capacity, and dumped part of the photo load on another file.

It's nothing to do with my PC. The photo is as you see it on my iPhone.

Plenty of them in the second hand market.

Nikonusa makes the 35 and the 50 refurbished available at ridiculously cheap prices from time to time. Get on their mailing list to know when their offerings are posted. I purchased a fantastic D5 refurbished for only 1/3 of its original price.

This little exchange between the two of you reminds me of a lovely little song I learned long ago:

It was early last November, as near as I remember, I was walking down the street in tipsy high.
No one I was disturbing as I lay down at the curbing and a pig came up and lay down by my side.
As I lay there in the gutter, thinking thoughts I cannot utter, a lady walking by was heard to say:
"You can tell a man who boozes by the company he chooses,.... and the pig got up and slowly walked away.

Thank you, CHG-CANON, for that trip down memory lane.

Before I begin my question, I have checked the search feature on UHH.

I am looking for software that can edit photographs?

inpixio has software that can accomplish many different purposes such as deleting parts of a photo and replacing the space with a logical background taken from the rest of the image. Topaz has programs that can clear up blurry subjects and remove noise. Topaz's gigapixel can increase the size of the original photo without introducing pixellation at all - a rather amazing program. Although Adobe Lightroom's main use is to adjust RAW images and then convert them to JPG, its many sliders can also adjust black/white balance in selected portions of the photo or globally, can bring out hidden shadow detail, crop out unwanted edges, and improve the overall even if the input photo is already a JPG. And ightroom's companion program, photoshop, has many filters that can make even further adjustments in the final image. The most up-to-date iterations of Adobe lightroom and photoshop are availlable as a subscription for just $10/month. Hope some of this is helpful. Happy fixing!
