Once or twice a year, I take a week or so motorcycle trip with a group of friends. I ride a Harley Road King which creates a considerable amount of vibration. I'm sure it would shake my camera apart if I were to pack it in a saddle bag -- although I've never tested the theory :). I've thought about strapping a hard protective case to the luggage rack or back seat. I'm wondering if anyone has done this or something similar and might have a suggestion as to what might work or worked for them?

We ride to some beautiful spots. Last year I found myself in Terlingua, TX at Big Bend National Park looking up at the Milky Way with nothing but an iPhone 6S+. The only time I take a camera with me on the bike is if I pack it in my Lowepro backpack and wear it to wherever I'm going. Not so bad for short trips but not really practical for longer trips. Anyway, thanks for any suggestions.

Being a Harley rider for many years I have taken my camera on many trips. On the assumption that you have hard saddlebags on your road king I would always take my D 90 and line the bag with a bath towel on the bottom of bag approx 3 inches thick. Then wrap the camera in another bath towel. Never had any issues and still continue this practice. I now shoot with a D8 50 and it has never been a problem. The hard saddlebags do have a lock so your equipment is secure. If you have leather saddlebags I still would not be alarmed as the chances of somebody fooling with another mans Harley is slim. There is a certain stigma about Harley riders that tends to frighten people. I have taken my cameras on 1200+ mile round trip’s and never had an issue. Pack your gear and relax and get the shots of areas that most people will never experience

Looking to buy a nikon z6...

Does it matter where to buy it from? Bestbuy has their awesome insurance over it but can i buy from somewhere else like walmart/ nikon.com/amazon and buy seperate insurance through another company? They all have their seperate bundles... opinions/suggestions?

If you have a local brick and mortar camera shop not Best Buy or WALMART I would strongly suggest going there. On genuine NIKON USA the price will be the same but the advantages of buying from a local store are enormous. The can show you proper set up, answer and demonstrate with knowledge all the features of your new camera. After a week of playing with your purchase you can go back to the store and have them answer the numerous questions you will have. They will be happy to see you and you will develop a relationship with that store. Somethings are priceless. Google NIKON USA and look for local retailers.

I recently purchased a used Nikon D810 in great condition, partially due to great images I have seen here. In comparing the images to my D3, It seem to have a lot of noise (at most settings) using the same lens and flash. This is happening at settings that should be getting plenty of light. Is this due to the higher resolution images or are there settings I could check? All suggestions and info appreciated.
Mike

Mike Have you tried a reset to the cameras original factory settings? You never know what someone may have changed along the way. I still have my D3 as well and won’t part with it. I bought the 810 when it first released and had great results. I have since moved to the 850.

Really?!? He is a kid, give him a break. He is using his school break to serve others, not all teens would do that. Wow! There sure are a lot of grumpy people on this forum, lol.

Has nothing to do with being grumpy or giving anybody a break. Has to do with accountability and responsibility. Permanently lost tells me he didn’t appreciate the gift he was given and threw it away. What happens when the generous grandfather buys him a new car and it’s not a Mercedes? The precedent needs to be established now.

I have a 16 year old grandson who is going to the Philippines this summer on a youth service project and he wants a camera to take. Last year he went to Gahana and I got him a pocket camera that he thought was not cool. When he got home it was permanently lost. His mother wants me to find a camera for him in the $250 range. I have always felt it not wise to stand out in a foreign country as a tourist so I like a pocket camera but I'm open to any ideas. Thanks in advance for an thoughts and advice

You need to kick your grandson square in the balls to get his attention. I can guarantee he lost the camera on purpose expecting you to buy him an expensive DSLR. Sounds like a spoiled little brat That feels entitled to something. Maybe you should get him a D5 and an expensive full frame lens. His story stinks to high heaven and he is being very disrespectful to you. It is unfortunate that this behavior has become so wide spread. Turn on your bullshit detector and you will find out what happened to the permanently lost camera. Once you have the truth kick him in the balls again!

[quote=In-lightened]I have this lens and really like it. This is a great lens for night sky. It went the distance in 15 below weather and strong winds in Alaska. For landscapes I have used it extensively when there is good foreground. Waterfalls and White Pocket specifically. The bad news...you have to purchase a filter system that is bulky and difficult to pack around. I have also used the 16-35...lighter and accepts screw on filters.

Thank you for sharing. Your images are outstanding.

Wondering where most people use this lens. I know it is the first part of the trinity. Just curious as to where members have found a use for this that make it their go to lens for a specific application

I am from across the pond - I have absolutely no time for Trump and his policies - I think he does the US great disservice in his foreign relations and lets the American people down, BUT the decorations look fine and First Lady has made effective effort in preparing the White House for Christmas.

Sniping just makes the critics look foolish and mean spirited.

And our President has no time for you. Keep your opinions about AMERICAN politics where you are-across the pond!

It's not to my taste, but it isn't something I care or know much about. If tacky decorations (I don't know if they are or not) were the worst we had to put up with from them, we would be in pretty good shape.

The decorations are far from tacky

The decorations are as stunning as the first lady. It is a shame that some people are so petty.

Buy the Z7 then make up your mind. Getting rid of a D5 would be like putting one of your children up for adoption. I seriously doubt you will be disappointed in the Z7. It is a very good camera and you will be blown away by the image quality. With you already owning the D850 and D5 you expect high quality. Let me know where you find the fit in your collection! I don't know where Sergiohm is getting his information that the Z7 sucks and the Z6 is better. I have shot them both as of last week. Only difference is the Z6 is more frames per second and lower resolution than the Z7 and 1000.00 less. I am fortunate to have a local brick and mortar store that gives me the ability to try all this new equipment when it comes out. If you have any other questions feel free to private message me I will be happy to talk to you about my experience with the camera.

Damn it! Was not going to buy the Z7, still have not, but curiosity got the better of me and I went to look at one. I have 2 D5's and a D850. Can hardly justify it, don't want it, well, kinda. Sold all of my Sony A7R2 and 3 cameras and lenses because I did not want multiple platforms. Now what!?!?! Dilemma and conundrum city!
Trying to not think about my confusion.

Robert I also have the D5 the D850 as well as my D3. Same situation your are in. I wasn’t going to buy the Z7 but I tried it and bought it. Came with the 24-70 f4. I also opted for the 35mm 1.8 S And the adapter for the F series lenses. My argument was that I was not sure where the fit would be with all my other gear. After using this camera for about 2 months now I am still not sure exactly where it fits. However I have no regrets as this is one great camera. My favorite use so far is indoor low light with the 35mm 1.8. Very compact and the image quality is outstanding. Great for dinner parties etc. If you have the other high end gear you will find a fit for this some where.
