Thank you Gene51

For flash in studio I use an external flash meter to be able to trigger and measure the light.

Outside, an incident meter is great and in the majority of situations you can use the reading as is, otherwise I set the in camera meter to spot, measure off a highlight area on the face, and use from -2/3 to +2/3 exposure comp depending on complexion and reflectance. Pasty-complexioned white people in early Spring get +2/3, African Americans, East Indians etc with dark complexions get -2/3 comp, and people with olive skin (no tan) get exposed as the meter reads them. Of course your horse sense will kick in after awhile and this becomes automatic.

I don't like or use iTTL, though there are many who get great results. I also don't use automatic flash - I learned the old way and I am most comfortable with manual flash.

Best advice for this piece of equipment: Buy heavy duty, look at spending $300 and up. Misuse of a boom can get somebody injured and you sued.

SS. You nailed it. I was thinking about something similar but I was not sure of what to use. Thanks buddy. I will try it later.

T, obviously the clamp is not getting tight enough. Maybe you can post a pic of the clamp area.
Can you wrap the pole with, say a bicycle inner tube to create more friction? If it's just facing down, can you rig a counter-weight?
Or wrap the entire joint with a bungee cord stretched pretty tight. Good luck

I bought a Flashpoint Boom with stand recently for my Flashpoint monolight and beauty dish. Unfortunately every time I extend it, the boom slides back down or the dish faces toward the ground instead of toward the subject. Any good heavy duty one out there for a reasonable price? Or is there any way that I can fix mine so it will not slide back down? Thank you guys.

For studio and outdoor portraits using a Nikon d750 with a Nikon 24-70 lens.

What kind of portraits? Studio portraits using strobes or speedlights would be one thing. Outdoor environmental portraits might be just about the same if you used that type of lighting, and entirely different if there is natural lighting. Street portraiture, where many if not most shots are spur of the moment situations are also very different.

So describe what you'll be doing. And the more specific you are, including camera and lens, the better.

The Flashpoint monolight needs to have that feature built into it.
HSS is achieved by the flash pulsing so rapidly that the light emitted is essentially a brief continuous light source. You can't make it worki me that unless it's engineered to do that in the first place.

Is it possible to turn a Flashpoint monolight 1220 to a HSS (High speed synch) with a wireless flash trigger?
