Bebu- they are real scanners, scanning each frame. Makes them ponderously slow to scan.

How does the price of the scanner (and your time) compare to having them professionally scanned?

#1 I am retired. Time is my cheapest commodity.
#2. I have a lot of film to scan. It would be prohibitive to scan commercially especially in view of #3 —
#3. I have a lot of my dad’s 16 mm movies. There are NO home scanners for those so I need to have money available to commercially scan those.

I have a substantial number of regular 8 and super 8 movies on 200 foot (5 inch) reels that I'd like to digitize, before they degrade. Kodachromes seem to age well because Kodachrome ages well in the dark and the individual frames get very little light, even in the days that I projected them a lot. There are several modestly priced scanners available through Amazon and other sellers. There are two models by Wolverine (at $299 and $399) but I have heard some less than stellar (to be kind) reviews of these. Kodak has one now (REELZ) and there is one on Amazon called the eyesen. Price of each of those is in the same $299-$399 zone. Does anyone have any firsthand knowledge of or experience with any of these? Once I finish scanning, I could unload the scanner on eBay and recoup at least half of my money.

Second question: they seem to list scanning at either 20 fps or 30 fps (that's output, not speed of scanning). Regular 8 ran at 16 fps and super 8 at 18 fps so how would one correct the scanned output?

I’m a newbie and am asking for guidance regarding photo editing software. I haven’t been able to understand PS & LR and am looking for “photo editing software for dummies.” Any recommendations about how to get my feet wet and learn slow and easy?

I agree with another poster who recommends Affinity Photo. I use it and like it for the same reasons. BUT - - it is very similar to photoshop in “difficulty “ so if PS/LR is too much for you, Affinity might not be your best substitute.

You don't need Adobe Reader. You browser will probably read pdfs, if it's recent. There are possibly a hundred different pdf readers on all platforms. I use sumatra on a Windows11 desktop. freely available, no installation needed, won't accept pdf viruses.

Macs will view and print pdf files from Preview, an app included with all macs.

Accurately described as the most boring sporting event on TV.

We get it on NBC...in between ads...and all they seem able to show, are events the U.S. might medal in. A cable channel was showing Biathlon which is a major sport for the rest of the world but I guess NBC thought it might not be PC since it (gasp!) shows guns being fired. An American woman placed 5th which is a major achievement yet it didn't even get a mention on the daily recap.

The cable channels you refer to are owned by NBC.

Simple answer. Contact www.thedarkroom.com

I use the darkroom.com all the time for processing but we’re talking about all film that may be antique formats that aren’t made anymore and they don’t have current developer formats anymore. For that, the only lab that will do it is Rocky Mountain Film. google it and check their processing they do everything from antique Ektachrome processes to disc film and 126 and everything else in between. The other labs quoted previously in this thread do standard processing and they do it very very well but we are wondering here if we’ve got some antique stuff that’s not been seen in a generation or more.

Actually I shortened the original joke. In the original after the asshole shuts down First the brain get woozy then the muscles get weak then the stomach is upset and then finally all the body parts come together and agree that the asshole should have a job.
