I've just had cataracts removed from both eyes...I didn't even know I had them until this past summer. I've been wearing glasses for at least the last thirty five years getting progressively stronger. Post surgery, my vision is 20/20 in one eye, 20/25 in the other. No glasses needed except for reading glasses on excessively small print. Don't hesitate to have them removed if its recommended.
I use the Corel program and use it almost exclusively although I have Photoshop and Elements. As far as duplicates are concerned...Guessing here. You imported them twice from your camera, that would be 2 copies. There should be some sort of indication in the file numbers..e.g. the file number followed by something like (1) (2) etc. What you might be seeing are thumbnails of the original files rather than actual copies. The catalog of the programs could be picking them up. You'd have to see the properties of the image to see where its being pulled from. As long as you file your pictures separately, removing a program will not effect the pictures themselves
Not up on the latest compacts out there but I do suggest that you look for one that has a viewfinder. No matter how they claim otherwise, LCD screens are all but impossible in bright sunlight. I have the Nikon P7100 as a bridge camera, small and light (although not pocket-sized) but it does the job very well.
Matte is my preferred choice. No glare and I think takes the ink better.
I don't have a problem with this particular shot, any enhancement required is minuscule. However on shot #2, faces are lost with the underexposure.

A very ironic thing has just happened in regards to a WOW photo. A very good example of one has just been posted by greogoryd45 at

It is well worth a look
WOW is right!
I'm not a pro nor even really that proficient with my D90 but my take is that regardless of mfgr, there are a few things that are a must...speed and good glass. After that, it's all about the eye and skill of the person behind the lens. The tool is only as good as the person holding it.
"I'm wondering if Topaz can tell that I never used it, and will let me try it again? Yeah, I doubt it too"
If you've never opened it up, it should still be good..the clock only starts running down once its been used. Simplify 3 is also a more recently updated release so if it is a while since you downloaded it, it may not be a problem . I'd just make sure that any earlier download is removed from your computer if it doesn't work.

How does it look on people portraits? Even seeing it on a snapshot would help.

Painter is very good (I have it) but Topaz Simplify is a better choice for your toolbox. It does the job quickly and with no learning curve.
Start your scanning with the most meaningful of your old photos to narrow down the enormity of the task. Once they are done, start those on the second tier. When I started scanning old baby pictures of myself and the people of that era enlarged on the monitor screen, I saw things in them that weren't noticed in looking at the originals.
The question is..does the buyer get a copy of the program, albeit a pirated one or nothing for money sent...
The ads I've seen often state the item is an open box unused item. A legitimate copy in the hands of a hacker can be replicated. It also could be someone who purchased a copy and wants to sell it if they don't use it.
Time consuming, but scanning the old pictures will have you seeing them in a new light. Things that may not have been so apparent, pop out at you.
while scams abound, I think that most people would be alerted to a price difference being too good to be true. In the case of software, the risk is probably greater that it's a pirated copy rather than that it doesn't exist.
I have a not so current version of Adobe Photoshop, as well as a fairly recent version of Elements. I've barely used them. The PSP program can do it all, albeit with a little more effort at times. I'm always looking for the better mousetrap and some programs do a task better or with more ease than others so my toolbox is well stocked..If I had to narrow down to one, it would be PSP.
