I am a little overwhelmed by all the choices I have for a safe storage site to place all my best work. Right now I have the Flikr free account, which is not adequate for holding all I want it to. Is Flikr worth paying for? I want people to have access to my portfolio, but I am just a hobbyist so I am not interested in an expensive website. I know there are free ones, but are they any good? Are websites better than Flikr? A high priority for me is that it cannot be complicated or time-consuming for me to organize it and add pics to it. Thank you!

I would not depend on cloud storage. There are too many potential issues. Going on the advice of IT professionals who recommend a minimum of three backups including one which is offsite, I backup all my photographs on two external hard dives and a five hard drive Drobo RAID system. One of the two backup drives (there are actually three) are exchanged with a drive in my safe deposit box in the bank for offsite storage in case of a fire or natural disaster. The initial investment is high, however, the safe deposit box is free since we maintain a high balance at the bank and use their securities brokerage service. With multiple copies of every photograph and offsite storage, my photographs are safe even if our house burns to the ground or if there is a large scale natural disaster.

Hi PixelStan77
Thanks for checking out the photo. Using video works well for this type of image, but does create a 9x16 aspect ratio that needs to be cropped for printing on standard paper sizes.

Are you sure you didn't use a NASA telescope!!!!! What kind of 8000mm lens did you use or was it a telescope? Can you please describe your setup?

My wife is looking for a light meter as she is getting into film photography.

I have used Sekonic analog incident light meters almost exclusively since I switched from a Weston Master reflective meter to a Sekonic L-28 in the early 1960's. Although I only do digital photography today, I am still attached to Sekonic's old analog design because it gives you all the information without pushing buttons. I am now having trouble deciding between replacing my older version of the L-358 that recently failed with a digital L-308X-U. It is a hard choice.

But you were asking SoftLights to "Look at your recent post". I was suggesting that you place a link to your recent post there so that there would be no confusion as to which recent post you were referring to.

Oh! Thank you, I understand. It no longer gives me the option to edit that post. Is there a way around that?

bpulv: when you want to refer to a specific post, look for the "#" to the far right on the dark band above the name of the poster. That's a link to that specific post. You can click on that, go to the post, then copy the URL and paste the link into a post.

In this case, I assume you are referring to this post:

DirtFarmer, thank you for your suggestion but, SoftLights is the originator of this post and he posted the original photograph, therefore, what you suggest does not apply in this case.

I recently shot some pictures in a church with white balance set at Auto, Normal. The pictures had a orange tint that didn't change even when switching to other WB settings. I have another project coming up in the same church and would like to eliminate the orange cast all together. Any help would be much appreciated.

SoftLights,

Look at my latest post!

Interesting, but I think the cape on the Priest is really gold colored and probably more true to life in the first photo.

OK David. I moved the photograph from LR to PS, used the Magnetic Lasso tool to outline and create a clipping mask and then used the Levels adjustment layer to adjust the color of the cape.

Take a photograph in the church with a white card in the picture (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1365030-REG/vello_wb_clii_white_balance_card_set.html). Make sure the white card is close enough to the camera so that it is of prominent size in the image. Then take the rest of your photos in the church.

Import all your church photos into Lightroom Classic CC and first edit the frame with the white card. Notice the eyedropper symbol over the dark circle on the left edge of the Treatment panel. Click on that icon and drag it over to the white card in your photograph and left click your mouse or trackpad. Your photograph will be instantly color adjusted to the correct color temperature. Now highlight all of your church photographs using the CMD-A function. Then SYNC and the color temperature correction of the white card photo will be copied to all of your highlighted photos.

I pulled the original into LR and used the method I described in my previous post using the white pages in bible in the pew behind the women in the blue dress as a white card (see first photograph below). I then used the EDIT IN command in the Photo pulldown menu to move the file to Photoshop CC for further editing where I first highlighted all of the dark areas with the Magic Wand tool, created a clipping mask for those areas and applied Color Balance to the clipping masked area. By adding cyan and yellow (reducing magenta and blue) I arrived at my final result. I then Save(d) and then Save(d) As a JEPG file (second file below).

Howdy All!
I wanted to add some editing software to my arsenal, but my Microsoft Pro Surface 2, has thrown in the towel with photography especially, where raw files are involved, outside of photography, I use my tablet for social media, shopping, and bill pay.
would anyone be able to recommend a lap top, or desk top, that would accommodate?
Thanks!

The best desktops for editing are the 27 inch iMacs.

As both a physician and a business traveler, I have chosen NOT to fly for a number of reasons.

First, your travel is not just in the plane, but your risk of exposure begins as you enter the airport. These are areas of high concentration and the obvious risk of contamination is ever present. Plus you must come into physical contact with surfaces such as baggage belts at TSA checkpoints, chairs, etc. where you cannot guarantee they are properly sanitized to protect you and others. While airports do look to maintain social distancing, it is easier said than done especially when boarding and deplaning.

Airlines are in the business of making money and not keeping you safe from contracting an illness. As an example, AA recently announced they will no longer keep the middle seat open to lower the risk of contamination. Yes, you must wear a mask and no food will be served, however as most flights are turned around in a short period of time, you have to decide if the airplane you will be flying on for perhaps upwards of 3+ hrs heading to Florida will provide you with adequate protection against a disease with a high probability of airborne and contact contamination. Once you land you still have to walk through high-concentration spaces to leave the airport and claim you bags. And finally, you most likely have to rent a car or take a cab/Uber which can further increase your risk of exposure.

In my own situation, we had a large family event planned for late August in S. Florida. The host took the decision to cancel the celebration and to move the date so that the actual ceremony could be seen on ZOOM by family and friends. No one has complained and most have actually thanked the hosts for recognizing that maintaining one's health is more important than a 4-hr gathering.

Hopefully by winter things will return to normal (or whatever normal will be) however FL is experiencing an explosion of COVID-19 and when you factor the reality that we still have to contend with a Flu outbreak beginning in the Fall, you may want to plan otherwise. In any case, please stay healthy and just be smart to protect both you and your loved ones.

I have been saving up my cash, and the lens I want, the Nikkor 70-200E FL, had been listed absolutely everywhere for 1896.00. I had my B&H cart loaded up, and went to look, and the price of that lens jumped from that to 2346 on every single site. Are price jumps like this common? It’s really disappointing because I scrimped and saved for the last two months to get that damn lens. I’ll probably just get it at mpb or KEH now, but it’ll end up costing about the same as I was gonna get it from B&H new with warranty. I kind of need it now, because I’ve been holding off on some gigs, but do you all think I should wait or try to get it at that previous price?
Thanks all.

I have noticed that a lot of businesses are raising their prices lately to try to make up for lost business during shutdowns.
