I went and got a piece of Maple for the pole of the new bird feeder. I turned it last night and got it stained too. Now I have get it planted.:):) I made it 6 feet long and have to cut some off the top. But I think I will have to put it in the ground pretty deep as heavy as it is.

If the squirrels become a problem, Grease the pole with Vaseline, and they just come sliding back down, lol lol. But you may need to make the pole smoother without the fancy carvings. Pole looks good though. Good luck with the new pole, and let us know how it works out.

I'm not changing. I plan on keeping 7 as long as I can.

Me too! I like the way 7 works, with the folders for the photos etc. Why would anyone need to upgrade to 10, if all is well? I'm able to burn photos to CD or DVDs, Can print photos directly from the folder, and even set them as desktop if I so choose.

The question of why the U. S. doesn't switch to the metric system has come up here several times. To quote one line from this article, "The benefits of switching are negligible, but the costs are huge." We've all heard the expression, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

http://www.popsci.com/why-hasnt-us-adopted-metric-system

I guess metric is OK for the new generation, that has been educated on it in school. As for me, an old timer, I'm so set in the inches and feet thing, that I hate it when info is given only in metric dimensions. I can visualize how long or large something is in inches, but millimeters just blows me away. Same with distance. I'm with you Jerry, I've used that term a long time now. I guess as we move along it will "Fix itself".... :|

Last evening my wife's computer suddenly "upgraded" to system 10 with no action on her part. This morning I awoke to find my own computer grinding away (at this point it's well past the 3-hour mark) saying "operations are in progress, please wait. The machine will be turned off automatically after the operations are complete." I'm assuming that this is also a forced upgrade to system 10, but 3 hours? Anyone have a suggestion as to what I can do to get my co-opted computer back? I can't believe that this can be legal. Class action suit, anyone?

I set my windows 7 to not install updates until I select them. That gives me a chance to view each one, and hide the ones I don't want to install. Don't install KB3035583. I have things working the way I like and don't want to mess up any photo files, so will only update when it's necessary to do so.

Refurbished if it comes with a U.S. Nikon warranty. Otherwise flip a coin. You don't need a box and if you really need a manual you can download it.

Exactly. Stay away from Gray markets. They can be risky, but a warranty from USA will be much better.

I have the opertunity to purchase a really clean used D7200 body for a really good price. It's just the body, no lenses. I own no lenses that will fit a Nikon body. I'm looking for advice on lenses. I don't have a lot of available funds in my "for photography" account at the moment, so I can't just go out and buy what I think would be the right lenses. I'm soliciting suggestions on what lenses to get on a budget that will compliment the camera and not anger the wife anymore than she is. Her exact words when I told her about the D7200, "what do you need another camera for, didn't you just get that new one a couple weeks ago?"
If it wasn't for the distinct red stripe I could have gotten away with not telling her. When she borrows one I always ask her, which one and her response is, the black one you showed me how to use.

Perhaps you could go to Nikon.com, and look at "all Lenses" , and pick one from the lens list, read about them, and make your decision, and then maybe buy one from Amazon or something. Nikon's web site will show the lens in detail with use info, etc. You may even elect to buy one that is a re-furbished for a even better price. Maybe from B&H, etc. I usually look at them at Nikon, read about them and then decide which one is the best one for what I want to photograph. I also read the user comments about them that way I feel more comfortable with my choice. Most all of Nikon's lenses will perform well on the D7200, FX or DX. I hope this will help you on your decision. Have fun with your photo adventures. There is also a host of information here on the hog, when you have made a decision, you could then post your inquiry about the lens you've selected before you buy it.

If you are just looking to scan existing slides, and have abandoned using film, you'd probably be best off having a scanning service do that for you. Otherwise, you'll be investing in scanning hardware that you'll use only once.

If you are going to continue to use film, then I'd recommend looking into Epson scanners and pick one that fits your needs.
